Problem In Selling Car

My husband (American) is out of country for 1 year, and I don’t know how to drive. To improve my cash flow I was thinking to sell my car. I found out that to transfer a car to new owner, I have to provide my husband's 1. Copy of passport (which I have), 2. Copy of visa (which I have) and 3. Certificate of residence (which I don't have). To get certificate of residence, I had visited to immigration and was told that my husband has to show up by himself and sign on application form.

I think still, there must be some way to sell the car… something like if my husband can create document saying that he wants me to sell his car, or he wants to give his car to me but cannot come to Thailand for many reasons, etc. Anybody can give me any advice?

I like this it's a new one, too inprove my cash flow I want to sell my husbands car while he's not in the country. Why don't you ask him for some money to fix a leaking roof. If you are geniune i'm sure someone will help you out.

Did he have to have a certificate of residence when he bought the car? If so, I'm sure he must have a copy of it somewhere. Does he know you're planning on selling HIS car to improve YOUR cash flow?

Of course he knows, my explanation was not very clear.

Yes, when he bought and registered the car he got certificate of residence, we have copy, but that old CoR is already expired. It was vaild only for few months, unfortunately.

Do you have the Tabien Rot? (the blue book) If you do, and it's signed by him as the owner, all you have to do is sign the transfer papers with the same signature (2 signatures total) on the "bai seu kai" (transfer papers) and hand over the book for the money. It's usually that simple, and as long as you have the book, the signatures barely have to match. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I have done in the past. You don't even have to go to the DMV (khon song) if you just sign the papers and hand over the book (of course getting your money in return).

if you want to sell the car, you shouldn't need a CoR, just as the previous poster mentioned. You should have a couple of documents signed by the same person who appears on the ownership book, again, the helpful gent mentioned the names of those too.

Only when you buy a car and want to transfer your name onto the ownership book would you need a resident's document. That's the issue I have at the moment - a WP doesn't seem to cut it.

Apologies for some of the male members' comments, but I'm sure you understand that there are numerous tales of Thai ladies whipping the financial rug out from under their unsuspecting foreign husbands. let's hope that that isn't the case with yourself...

Hello again,

I have blue book. Car is registered under my husband's name ( I saw his name printed on blue book). One strange thing is that I don’t see his signature on the book …

Getting his signature is no problem, I can send necessary documents to him and he can fedex it back or whatever. I went to car registration office and got transfer document few weeks ago, asked them what kind of document I need to give to new owner. I was told that I need to give copy of passport, copy of visa and certificate of residence. I called one 2nd hand car dealer and asked same question, got same answer.

Anyway thank you very much for your help. I think I should triple-check car registration office. I will post again what I will find out in there.

lots of people don't sign the blue book for some reason. if yours isn't signed, then you don't even need your husbands signature, just sign the one paper that i mentioned 2 times and sign your blue book with the same signature. it's as easy as that.
