The B100 million expansion to Boat Avenue is underway.

PHUKET: -- Expansion projects valued at more than B100 million have begun at Phuket’s Boat Avenue shopping mall in Cherng Talay.

“Boat Avenue is booming. All businesses here are doing very well, and many other businesses want to lease commercial buildings from us. So, due to the high demand, we are expanding Boat Avenue,” said Boat Avenue Vice President Boon Yongsakul.

“We have several projects lined up with the total budget over B100mn to transform the lagoon at the site into a mega-shopping centre in a modern design.

“It will be international shopping experience for everybody, with stores everything from local products to luxury imports.” he told The Phuket News.

Among the long list of projects under the expansion is Boat Avenue III, which is already under construction, explained Mr Boon, who is also Deputy Managing Director and son of Boat Lagoon owner Kanit Yongsakul.

Boat Avenue III will have a main four-story building of conjoined units, with the first and second floors filled with luxury goods and imported furniture stores, an international health and beauty centre, souvenir shops, banks and a variety of restaurants, including a pizza delivery store.

“The third and fourth floors will house areas that can be used as either office spaces or living spaces. This project will be completed early next year and each unit will be sale for B13mn,” Mr Boon said.

A news story or just a free advert ... gigglem.gif

Have you ever noticed that there's never any follow-up on these "news" stories when the project never materializes (such as the IKEA Phuket pickup point and the mega Mall to be built near Tesco Lotus Samkong). Both of those projects were promoted as major "news" stories.

The Chinese are going to eat "Dunkin' Donuts" and "Subway?"

I don't think so. biggrin.png

My point was that if its important enough to run the announcement of a new project as a "news" story, complete with target dates, then its important enough to run a follow-up news story that explains what happened when the project never materializes. Unless, of course, the "news" story was nothing more than a free advert (as LiK implied) and the media in question is nothing more than a shill for property developers.

How difficult would it be to contact the people that provided the information for the original stories and ask them about the current status of their projects?

Seeing as boat is the only person doing anything worthwhile north and east of the island, i consider this news.
