Moving To Bangkok

Featured Replies

Dear Friends,

I will be moving to Bangkok with my Fiancée in about 6 months. He is not a Thai Native but has lived there for 11 years. I do not know the language, culture or anything but I'm really looking forward to moving there becuase everyone who has been there has loved the experience. But I am also very nervous. I will be leaving all my friends, and all my family in the US.

I want to make some friends who are already there and willing to help me out, so I do not feel so lonely there. If you are living there and understand my situation. Please help! I would love to hear about your experience moving there/living there everything.

Are there anything I should be weary about moving there? I am thinking about talking classes at a college. Any advice on that? Which colleges are good? Which ones should I avoid? If I work there what steps should I take?

My Fiancée will move there in aout 5 months to set everything up, so when I go there it is all set. But he knows the language and is confident about the move. He has a job there, however, I dont' know the language and don't have a job there. I want to know all there is so it can help me prepare for my move.

Please help! i am afraid i will die of loneliness!

start learning language - even from the net, CDs. Boyfriend should help.

read books about Thailand - even guide books will give you some ideas about the place.

you can start doing teaching qualifications (english), look for a work and on that basis working visa (your boyfriend knows all about it).

you won't be lonely - you have your partner with you. Otherwise adopt some pets.

I would echo the last post. Learn the lingo. As for practicalities, everything is available here. Actually almost everything. I still have to have brassieres brought from the west for me and super plus tampons and swimming costumes, but apart from those everything else I want is there. Which area are you moving to?

Good luck

Are there anything I should be weary about moving there?

Weary? Almost everything, I would think, particluarly bad grammar.

I am always open to hear grammar advice. :-) English is not my first language so I have an excuse. :o

I have started to listen to Thai music from my neighbor. But I don't think I am learning much. I am thinking about purchasing some programs to help me.

Does anyone know of a good program, or an internet site? It would be awesome!

How about 'particluarly' poor spelling?

You haven't been reading this forum very long or very carefully, have you?

I respectfully suggest that might be a good start for you. There are two distinct schools of thought represented here. You should know what they both are. Then you will be in a better position to face the future realistically and make up you own mind as to what you think.

:o Give the girl a break. She is only looking for advice.

Nanlyle PM me if you need to know anything specific.
