Leader of trafficking probe shifted to South, may resign from police
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- SOME 88 suspects have been indicted so far in the case of a southern-based human trafficking ring targeting Rohingya and other migrants, Prayuth Sattayarak, deputy head of the Attorney-General's Human Trafficking Case Office, affirmed yesterday.

Legal proceedings against the group would be complete before the detention period was up, he said. The Criminal Court had set November 10-13 for an examination of the evidence, he added.

Prayuth confirmed the transfer of case investigation team leader, Provincial Police Region 8 deputy chief Pol Maj General Paween Pongsirin, to a new post as deputy commissioner at the Southern Border Provinces Police Operation, but said it would not affect this case.

Paween has said the investigation affected the safety of officers on the case, as most suspects were influential people with power and money to threaten them and witnesses. He said some witnesses claimed to have received threats.

He said the transfer was within his supervisor's judgement but he would consider whether to agree - or resign.

Paween led the police probe that uncovered camps on the Thai-Malaysia border, where victims were held for ransom and many bodies were found buried in mass graves.

Was someone doing their job too well ... ?

ARTICLE 44 ANYONE ?

If Article 44 is justified in investigating the Rice Pledging Scheme, then SURELY it is justified here, in dealing with these most

heinous of crimes ????

But there again, maybe some of the accused are just too important to be convicted?

He is one of the reasons Thailand is regarded as one of the most illegal trafficking nations in the world. Transferring him or letting him resign is a lack of enforcing the law. he knew where those camps were because he was paid to let them operate. They should fire him and send him to jail!

"Paween has said the investigation affected the safety of officers on the case, as most suspects were influential people with power and money to threaten them and witnesses. He said some witnesses claimed to have received threats."

I read this as a man doing his job too well and ruffling the feathers of the big birds with power, money and influence, sufficiently to pose a danger to he and his men. He, Paween led the probe that uncovered the camps on the border.

If I have read this wrong please someone set it straight

I think this chap has been threatened or he wouldn't be thinking or retiring a lot of big money has been made by a lot of powerful people in order to get to grips with trafficking it needs people who cant be bribed or threatened .
