BANGKOK: -- Former Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol Gen Prawut Thavornsiri has tendered his resignation from police service, one year ahead of his official retirement end of September next year.

He tendered his resignation letter to the Royal Thai Police commissioner on October 29.

Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda confirmed Pol Gen Prawut’s resignation saying he has signed approval of the resignation.

The resignation was forwarded to the Cabinet for acknowledgement and for royal command, he said.

Pol Gen Prawut’s latest position was senior consultant to the Royal Thai Police, after his position as spokesman was taken over by the new spokesman.

Pol Gen Chakthip did not elaborate the reason behind the resignation.

He is 59 and still have one more year before retiring September 30 next year.

Good work on the bombers in BKK....did they ever catch the culprits, last reading was they all escaped Thailand and Gonzo :-(

Saving face is so important to these people that he would give up his retirement.

What do you mean "give up his retirement"? The only thing he will have given up is one year's entitlement on which his pension will be calculated.

You really should keep up to date if you're going to post comments like that. Stop reading comics and try a newspaper.

What was the problem for him NOT giving a reason ?????

Is the man running before something emerges ???

Just seems that so many high officials are doing this at this time, I wonder if they have something to hide.

OK you PM haters, come on tell me ------if they get caught--it will all be "I did nothing" politically motivated, and your not allowed to judge me because you intervened and you are not legitimate.cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

BANGKOK — Former police spokesman Police Gen. Prawuth Thavornsiri has resigned from all bureaucratic posts, police commander Chakthip Chaijinda announced today.

According to Police Gen. Chakthip, Prawuth submitted his resignation to the police on Oct. 29, two days after he was abruptly ousted from his post as a police spokesperson without any explanation. Chakthip said he approved the resignation on the same day.

“Police General Prawuth submitted his resignation through the Human Resources Office in accordance with the regulation,” Chakthip said today. “Right now the matter is pending royal endorsement by His Majesty the King, because Prawuth is a senior civil servant.”

Doubt it. I think prawut was a stand up guy. Resignation proves he wasn't part of the boys club. Its a shame.

Why would he resign if he had something to hide? He's not fleeing the country or trying to peddle casinos......maybe he just had enough.

An acquaintance of mine works, shall I say, in diplomatic circles in Bangkok and claims to know Gen Prawut, reckons he's one of the good guys.

When I spoke to him at the weekend he was very concerned for his well being.

No idea for the reasons nor are they any of my business. I will say however that to have carried this post for sometime it must have been on occasions exceedingly difficult and stressful and that if a peaceful retirement beckons then have at it.........

Good luck to you Sir........ you look like you still are in pretty good health.. go and enjoy this new phase in life.

Sounds like he is up to his neck in something and if the other reports I have seen are true, it's the crime there is no buying your way out of.

Even if he is a good man underneath, it must be very difficult to refuse the temptation of corruption when it is so easily available - and under Pheu-Thai, there was precisely zero chance any senior policeman would ever be prosecuted no matter what.

Fair play to him in that he has resigned before he is disgraced. Not many do that here.

Another small step in the right direction for Thailand though.

Clause 11 reads as if: "You will not ... list of things... on the basis of ... list of things", so we can do any of the first list of things on the basis of things that are not in the second list of things.

For example, it does not prevent one from posting a negative comment towards a Thai institution .... on the basis of fact.

Correct?

I suspect there must be many cases where powerful immoral people deliberately set up scenarios whereby good people suddenly find they have been trapped and then warned to keep quiet or else.

I recall a story some time back about the bombing where Spokesman Prawut made some comment about the retiring Chief Pol Gen Somyot and the new incoming boss Pol Gen Chakthip. I remember I was surprised at the time when I read of Prawut making some uncomplimentary remarks about his incoming boss. Whether he was misreported I am not sure but I got a bit of a shock and I made some comment in these pages to the effect that his new boss was unlikely to be impressed with his opinion of him. Seems now I was not mistaken and he has been given his marching orders (chosen his resignation) as a consequence.

What on earth does this have to do with PM haters? I swear that some of you junta supporters should be certified. Just for the record, I'm glad to see the back of this plonker too.

The defamation laws here are pretty strict, as per this part of rule 6: " It does not have to be false to be defamatory. " You simply cannot make defamatory allegations here.

My point relates to clause 11. That clause is poorly worded. It should not rely on a separate clause to try to plug the gap that it leaves itself.

Anyway, this is all very off topic for this thread.

I'd like to know what country he's in, at present?

Last I read here (I think when the same new police commander was previously denying that Prawut had resigned), the article indicated that Prawut was then on travel abroad after being removed as spokesman, supposedly a long-planned trip.

Wonder if he's ever come back to LOS, as yet?

The answer to that might well give some good indicator as to whether there are "other" issues pertaining to his resignation.
