PM meets with top executives of electronics industry

BANGKOK, 04 November 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce invited major investors in the electronics industry to a meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss stimulus measures from the public sector.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha spoke with top executives in the electronics industry, such as HGST (Thailand) Ltd., Western Digital Corp., and Seagate Technology (Thailand) Ltd.

Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion Malee Choklumlerd said the meeting discussed obstacles in the industry and how various government agencies, such as the Board of Investment, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Industry, can encourage corporate spending.

The move is part of government efforts to boost private investment and promote Thailand as a manufacturing base, and follows the first "Prime Minister Meets CEOs" event with auto manufacturers on October 26.

The Prime Minister will chair another meeting on December 9 of the International Trade Development Committee. This meeting will draw up a five-year trade-promotion strategy as well as decide whether to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

The PM was going to video tape the meeting but could not turn the camrecorder!!!

Manufacturing base? I thought this was the sufficiency economy?

Are they planning a trip to the moon or is that another hub in the making

You will need to consult the Five Rivers on that right

One wonders if the single gateway was discussed..............coffee1.gif

So he settled for 60" televisions for each room in his house.

Only for those with insufficient income.

If Richard Branson can do it with Virgin Galactic then why not Thailand. A space program may not be so ridiculous.

Prayut remains PM

And which Thai company are they going to partner with to do it? Honda? Toyota? Boeing?

I think this is another spin article. If hard drive manufacturers keep producing their products from a junta controlled country they will eventually face tariffs. I'm thinking they called the meeting to tell him this.

Hard drive manufacturers have been leaving Thailand for the last 5 years. Solid state is taking over.

That still would not negate their concerns. Thailand is still the biggest manufacturer of hard drives in the world and if it loses its favored trade agreements they will lose huge. Also WD just bought Sandisk so they will not be going anywhere for a while.

So he can watch himself as he paces around pondering his next move, every Friday night!
