Non IM O-A entry date question

Featured Replies

After spending some time in the States I am now returning to Thailand and arrive @ BKK on 10 Nov 2015.

I have a Non-Im O-A visa that was issued on 22 Oct 2014, with a use before date of 21 Oct 2015. I stamped in last year on 9 Dec 2014 and that stamp reads "admitted until 8 Dec 2015".

Does this mean that I can still use this visa when I enter? It seems so but I want to double check with someone who knows for sure (ubonjoe?)

Thanks all

The visa has expired and is of no further use.

Unless you have a re-entry permit your "permission to stay" is dead.

Sorry

Unless you got a re-entry permit keep your entry valid you will only get a 30 day visa exempt entry when you arrive.

Your visa has already expired.

As said your visa is expired. FYI.

  • Had you arrived on or before Oct 21st you would have beed granted another 1 year stay.
  • Had you bought a re-entry permit when you left the country you would have been granted a stay until Dec 8th when arriving back on Nov 10th.
I stamped in last year on 9 Dec 2014 and that stamp reads "admitted until 8 Dec 2015".

That's your permission to remain in Thailand, it does not extend your visa. Once the visa expires you need a re-entry permit which would allow you to leave and return to the country up to the same date your permission to stay expires.

Unfortunately some people still speak of permission to stay or extension of stay as if it were the same thing as a visa. It isn't.

Thank you all for the feedback. I stamped in last night & as ubonjoe said got a 30 day visa exempt entry . But that's ok as I only plan on staying a month. Then it's off to Cambodia where I will get my long term visa, using Phnom Penh this year as my base of operations.

It's good to be back in the tropics. The November winds in New York we're starting to blow bitter. Managed to make it out before the first snowstorm and that's the way I want to keep it always.
