Dept of Fisheries delivers progress report to EU officials on tackling IUU fishing

BANGKOK, 6 November 2015 (NNT) - The Command Center for Combating Illegal Fishing (CCCIF) has held a meeting to follow up on the progress of various agencies, in anticipation of the European Union withdrawing its yellow card against the Thai fishing industry.

Adm Na Areenich, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy and Commander of the CCCIF chaired meeting where the Department of Fisheries delivered a progress report to The EU’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. The department detailed its progress in tackling illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing as well as its progress in enforcing maritime law and training agencies related to the fishing industry.

Each agency under the Department of Fisheries presented its own progress report on establishing boundaries in Thai waters, drafting a memorandum of understanding between the Department of Fisheries and the Customs Department on inspection efforts, relocating illegal alien workers in the fishery industry, and Thailand’s cooperation with neighboring countries in tackling IUU fishing and human trafficking.

EU delegates conducted their most recent inspection in October to monitor the progress of Thailand’s efforts.

''in anticipation of the European Union withdrawing its yellow card against the Thai fishing industry''

Blimey talk about putting a positive spin on things!!

Might be a large amount of face lost if this goes the way many other's think it will, probably would have been a better idea to keep schtum but unfortunately many of the ruling class seem to have a bit of an issue doing that.....

What was the content of the report? Give us your OK and everything goes back to "normal" in a week or two?

Yea withdrawing the yellow card and giving them a nice new RED card

I gotta' wonder how factual the report was whistling.gif

OK lads if the EU doesn't understand Thainess we'll issue a press statement on their behalf saying we're doing a wonderful job.

I won't believe the report unless it was written by the EU itself. thumbsup.gif
