Suggestion On Where To Settle In Thailand

Hi All,

Planning to move in Thailand fairly soon ( 6 months ) and I am a little confused on where I should settle down for a year or two. There's so many great places but so hard to pinpoint one from abroad on the web (Canada).

The problem is that I've visited southern thailand for 3 weeks and haven't had a chance to find these less known area. As a good ol' tourist I went to : Chewang Beach (Samui) , Phiphi, Krabi, Phuket ( patong ). Any good area to look into in these regions?

I would ultimately liked to:

Rent a beach house ( or close to a decent beach w/ 3 bedrooms )

Some Farangs but not too many

Hi-speed connection available in the region

Some nightlife not too far

In the 70 000 b range for renting /m.

I don't necessary need real-estate advices or specific houses for rent but mostly areas to narrow my search.

Thanks for the tips.

You might want to check into Bangsaen. It's a Thai resort town, meaning that there are not too many falangs there. I have a house there fairly close to the ocean, and it's nice. You would not be able to spend 70k/mo on house rent. Max about 30-40K. 45km to Pattaya.

Maybe check it out.

STOP! think twice and then again. Now that you have made a mistake make the move.

First. make sure that you fit in to one of the visa areas. This will drive you nuts if you think you can make a border crossing every month. Just a pain in the A$%. Make sure you can walk the walk with your passport and visa. if not you will be in for a short stay. what ever you think you will not want to eat Thai food all the time. you need a car or you will need to live close to a major shopping store.

Next, I have three rules that one should always think about.

1. Never live near your girlfriends or wife, mother and family.

2. Never live so close to a temple you can hear it. they love to talk and yap on the microphone all the time day and night. As do the local village people.

3. Never live on a dirt road. you and all you have will be covered in dirt 8 months out of the year.

Ahhh Thailand...

gonenorth, very good sound advise, and should be considered gospel.

I prefer not to live on the coast because of the access humidity, so I live upcountry and in the hills.

And the dust is still bad here as they seem to buy their real estate by the truck load and there are all the trucks coming onto the roads with mud between the duals and leaving it to cause road dust,I have never seen a country that the people are never satisfied with the placement of the earth and insist on moving it place to place to suit themselves. :o

  • 1 month later...

I ahve been looking around for rents and most of those on line realtors are just riduclous.

When I was in Phuket I found some private people with houses and they are between 15,000 and 25,000 for furnished 3 bedrooms

I think I found one on Thaivisa in classifieds. but hunt for different sites which have classifieds.

I find the on line hotels are $300 a night and get to Thailand and you can go to the same htoel for 100
