Those Darling Little Squirrels...

I suspect the more literate among them thinks that the "e" in Cat 5e stands for edible The Linksys help desk suggested labeling a 240v cable the same way - I don't know if that did the trick, but they haven't been heard from since, although I suppose it could have been the rat poison I left out for the dumb ones that couldn't read.

We had them in the roof. Chewed through a LAN cable and shorted a live electric cable causing days of trouble and costing several thousand baht in a rewiring job.

Solution: Cat.

My cat has spent years trying to plot and catch one of these things. So far no success.

The only results have been - cat stuck on roof (twice). It was the rush of adrenalin chasing the squirrel that got it up there.

Cat falling out of tree when lunging for squirrel (twice).

The closest one was when 2 squirrels fell out of the tree fighting each other and suddenly became grounded. That was a close one, but just escaped.

They're tasty too in a stew.

Can't get me to eat them BBQ'd. That's the inlaws favourite method but I can't get over their rat like appearance. The family hunts them; just not in the city as those are "dirty". Don't understand that rationale.

Small consolation, but they smoke for a long time after getting between the power distribution breaker and earth...used to see them regularly after they caused a blackout in our Soi...zzzzzzt

Common Guys Rats are Fun I have sat at a road side eating and drinking and when one of the little guys shows his head I send a piece of ice sailing through the air at the rat target

Usually hit about 75 % of them. I understand the Olympic Committee has this sport under advisement since there are a lot of enthusiasts doing the same in several cities

Proper "bannock".

If I remember rightly, they are also rabies carriers.

You remember wrongly.

You're right, although they do carry plague. Woodchucks and groundhogs carry rabies.

Actually not entirely impossible. Any mammal has the possibility of carrying the disease and squirrels have been known to do so, although rare. This begs the question of how many squirrels have ever been tested for the virus? The most likely carriers will be dogs, cats and bats. Sorry this is somewhat off topic but I felt the comment worthy.

so the squirrels are getting in the house?...or you leave your pc in the garden?..lots of chipmunks here also, even smaller but lovely to watch.

i just wonder if wrapping your exposed cables in the flexi/spiral conduits may help deter them.

I have them in my roof every night and worry that the cables are not in conduits. no access so cant check. just keep throwing the camphor and pink pellets about.

Sounds like you patronise some really classy eateries. You should buy a BB gun at Mae Sai for more enjoyment. biggrin.png
