morrobay
http://www.pattayamail.com/news/soi-1-sidewalks-under-repair-52877 They still dont get it. The initial undermining problem here was caused by the North to South current. That current was slowed by the giant sandbags to North, causing sand to be deposited there. With subsequent subtraction of sand in affected area.
morrobay
Told you so. Check it out. The beach across from Holiday Inn , South of sandgags is gone and walkway is collapsing as result of current ^ not flooding
phycokiller
Told you so. Check it out. The beach across from Holiday Inn , South of sandgags is gone and walkway is collapsing as result of current ^ not flooding so where did the sand go? I still think its mainly the flooding taking it out to sea, and the tractors moving the remaining sand closer to the wall which further undermines the beach. if it was the current the beach would be getting wider somewhere
Awohalitsiktoli
The main problem is threefold: 1) rampant development (concrete) that destroyed the water catchment areas, 2) cutting down all of the old-grown salt-tolerate shade trees that held the sand in, and 3) creating a "freeway-like" walkway with no water barriers or proper drainage. I still think its mainly the flooding taking it out to sea, and the tractors moving the remaining sand closer to the wall which further undermines the beach. if it was the current the beach would be getting wider somewhere So where did the sand go ? The sand went South !. This current problem is the result of the strong wind driven North to South longshore current. The news link date of repair completion is in dry season and current damage was not caused by flooding no matter how many times it is repeated. Ill explain this one more time that the sandbags you can see just North of the undermined area in post #16 in Beach Walkway caused the damage; The load of sand that a current can transport is proportional to its velocity. When the North to south current carrying a load of sand is slowed down by an obstruction like the sand bags it drops sand. As soon as the current passes the obstruction it increases its velocity and picks up sand. In this case it removed the beach and undermined the walkway causing collapse. And it will happen again and again. Of course if there is the flooding it will make it worse. But again this is all dry season damage.
