Alleged British Scam Artist’s Latest Victim: His Own Lawyer

Featured Replies

Khmer Times/Jonathan Cox

The legal representative of a British man accused of running an international fraud scheme said yesterday that he has been scammed out of his legal fees, and announced he will drop the case yesterday after 22 months serving his client without pay.

Meanwhile, the defendant Greg Fryett is being detained based on fraud charges in 2013 after he allegedly forged legal documents and bribed officials in Banteay Meanchey province in order to get titles to more than 6,000 hectares of land.

The parent company of Mr. Fryett’s Cambodian business is also in trouble back home in Britain.

His two co-directors have been charged by the Serious Fraud Office there with scamming pensioners out of more than $11 million for their failed bio-fuel venture in Cambodia.

Allegations of Backstabbing

Mr. Fryett’s legal representative, David Chanaiwa, said that Mr. Fryett agreed to pay him $1 million but later reneged on the promise.

He must have done a lot for him in 22 months to get to a million dollars at Cambodian rates. Makes me wonder who was conning who. That's a lot of hay in Cambodia.

On the other hand, the lawyer couldn't have been too clever if he worked for nearly two years without collecting at least some of his pound of flesh either up front or in installments, especially from a client who stood a good chance of ending up incarcerated.

Could the OP post the correct link to this article please.

I am one of the supposedly scammed investors but there is a lot more to this story than meets the eye.
