Police checkpoints

I remember reading somewhere maybe a few weeks ago, that either the PM,

or Chief of Police said all police check points must be stopped.

While driving around,I have seen a lack of checkpoints, several places where

they seemed to have been a fixture, there has been none.

So driving to Kamtein market this morning, just around the corner, opposite the

Post Office, there were at least 6 police with a check point set up,stopping

traffic,so does this mean they realize that this has been such a big hit on

revenue, that police check points are back on again ?.

They can only do them with a police Captain present.

He will be the one sitting in the tent with the flat hat and gold braid.

Otherwise it's illegal, photograph it and they all get moved to inactive posts.

What he meant to say was;

they can only do them if you see a zombified looking Captain Scarlet pretty much as my avatar sitting in a tent with strings dangling from above moving his arms.

and you would say:

"Is that chair to your liking, Captain? No, don't get up"

"Yes sir.....uh....no, sir"

"Just remember this is an operational base, not a rest centre!!!!"

I have never had a problem at any checkpoint and always find them polite and well mannered. Unless you are doing something wrong I don’t see the problem.

Problem is, they bully/hassle people, they slow traffic down, & they could be doing something more useful, such as riding around, looking out for crazy driving & other moving traffic violations that are more serious to innocent people than not wearing a helmet etc

The problem (as I see it) is that these police could be riding around town nicking some serious road offenders if they had the balls.

Except its make believe.. If they dont get something wrong, they look to make something wrong..

No helmet (wrong)

No Tax (wrong)

No License (wrong)

Not happy with international licenses (debateable)

Bike green book (not needed but demanded)

House tabien baan (unreal but they demanded this from a Thai with a farang)

Bike 'modify' (no standards, theres no test for exhaust volume or if you have a road legal euro stamped exhaust.. Its just 'modify').

Crossed the lane

Etc...

I have no problem with complying with the obvious.. I kick up merry hell when they try to impose false fines.

If you chose to be here - don't complain about the rules of the game - you are a guest and the rest is up to them!

Is this from someone who has just arrived recently ?, the post was not about

the good or bad of road blocks, but they were supposed to have been stopped

by either the PM or Chief of Police, but they are starting to do it again, you just

have to realize nothing is permanent here.plus I feel if you pay taxes here, you

have the right to make observations,be they good or bad.

I'm slowly coming around to your way of thinking. Why should I care about the future of the country I have lived in for the past 26 years, concern myself with trying to right the wrongs, or worry my little head about the future of my wife and children. As they say, ignorance is bliss, and I'm feeling perked up already. Thanks for the advice and a tip-of-the hat to you!

Maybe you should start a new Topic along these lines - you'd be helping so many people out, and I don't just mean the people in Authority. Oh, I see you did. Well done.

Now, where are my (rose-tinted) glasses?
