MANILA, 19 November 2015 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has accepted an invitation from Russia to visit the country and strengthen bilateral ties, marking 120 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Deputy Government Spokesperson Major General Weerachon Sukhontapatipak revealed that Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha met with his Russian Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev on the sidelines of the APEC Summit in Manila, Philippines.

Gen Prayut accepted an invitation to visit Russia in May 2016, marking 120 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Russia. The two prime ministers also agreed that at the beginning of next year, there would be a meeting in Russia of deputy prime ministers and ministers related to economic and national security affairs. The meetings would draft trade and investment agreements to be finalized and signed during Gen Prayut's visit in May.

The Thai Prime Minister took this opportunity to affirm with Mr. Medvedev that Thailand and Russia would establish closer ties in all areas, from the economy, energy security, and agricultural trade, to national defense and security intelligence.

It's no wonder these buffons have the egos that they have when all these other countries are scrambling for a piece of Thainess.

putin will have his own agenda as usual

he wouldnt waste the time otherwise and i doubt he has much genuine interest in thai culture

Could it be there's a desire to put some 'hi-visibility' miles on his brand new Airbus ACJ 320 luxury jet?

It's a nice ride and has some definite 'show' appeal.

Getting there is half the fun.

Well, he's got China in his back pocket. Not much chance of flirting with Obama at this stage, so best to do the next best thing and be seen hugging Vladimir.wink.png

It seems that all the US knows how to do is chastise Thailand every chance it has, so what the heck does Prayut have to lose by strengthening ties with Russia. As the Western empire crumbles, the East becomes stronger and independent and domestically interdependent. The BRICS and Asia can continue to develop and grow between 2% to 5% per annum by promoting domestic trade over the next 10 years.

By comparison, this leaves the West to deteriorate in their own hubris and their inane reliance on low paying service sector jobs and no manufacturing. Well, other than military grade weapons. And printing money. "Hey, another 350K jobs have been created in flipping hamburgers and waiting on tables." Unemployment is 1.5% and 175 million people are out of the work force. Big Whoop!

80,000 tons of rubber that wants to find a home. Do they have condom factories here in Thailand??

That's classic!!! +100000 point for you. clap2.gif That's funny.

Now we just need the US to create a few thousand NGOs to promote condom use by Muslim men.

Most likely, Putin will be giving him a good dose of 'P'-ness...

The time will come when the Thais look back with nostalgia on the good will they once enjoyed from America and Americans.

The alarming fact is the date may 16 , so we can safely assume that the Junta intend being in power into 17 , I would say after that the door will start closing and the crowds will start gathering , along the way regardless of US and allies relationship Junta's always attract the dregs mainly because Junta's are regarded as such and they do have a 120 year old relationship and it shows, even if it is Pattaya.................coffee1.gif

A little perspective.

The US GDP is approximately 17.5 trillion USD.

GDP per capita is 46,400 USD (or 52,100 if your prefer the PPP basis)

The Thai GDP is approximately 390 billion USD.

GDP per capita is 3,450 USD (or 14,000 USD on the PPP basis)

When the US economy grows by 3%, it adds 525 billion USD to their GDP. That's 130% of the entire Thai economy.

The US has a mature economy; Thailand and the BRIC states are developing economies. By definition, they are expected to have higher growth rates. However, even if Thailand experiences GDP growth 2 times the US growth rate, it will take 35 years for Thailand to experience similar levels of GDP per capita (PPP basis).

Here's another factoid to give some perspective: In the US, about 3 million working people make the Federal minimum wage or less, and that is about 2.5% of the employed workforce.

Now, how many people in Thailand make the minimum wage or less?
