Army probe finds traces of corruption in Rajabhakti

We all remember what happened when it was disclosed that Prayut's government had bought TVs for THB 600,000.00 and microphones for three times the market price.

An army investigating committee had found that all was regular and within the budget.

Sounds familiar?

If the Army says there is no corruption...then there IS no corruption...if you question their findings...the Army will be glad to offer you a vacation in one of their many "attitude adjustment" centers...this is Thailand...all corruption has be eradicated by the PM and his band of merry men...

This was impossible to blame any Red shirts for...this could not be the fault of the previous elected Government .. so all that was left to say was nothing illegal or immoral happened .. those who disagree will be silenced

'Therefore there is no need to ask the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the project ...' Well, that's good news. Perhaps all government departments could save the cost, time and trouble of involving the NACC, simply by doing their own in-house audit and confirming all to be in order. Some asylum inmates could lend a hand, too.

Not having the media present when the statement was made means nobody could ask any questions on behalf of the public - and there are many to be asked. An internal inquiry into such a sensitive matter involving such large sums of taxpayers' money is bound to raise suspicions.

If politicians, rather than a military-led government, were running the country, there would almost certainly be vociferus demands in Parliament for an independent inquiry, which is clearly needed to allay legitimate concerns in Thailand and reassure an increasingly sceptical international community

No Corruption in Rajabhakti Park, Army Rules

I understand - if we play this game by the army rules, there is no corruption. This explains quite a lot about previous military scandals. They were just played by "army rules" . However were we to play by other rules - like civilian rules, then it is quite possible there might have been some corruption. Because the army were in charge of this particular game though, army rules apply.

As for the issue of a middleman taking 10 percent cuts of various expenses, including the statues said to cost about 40 million baht each, Teerachai said the media should directly ask former army chief Udomdet Sitabutr, who oversaw the project built to honor the monarchy by erecting large statues of significant historical kings.

He also said no military personnel are accused of corruption in the park project in the first place, despite an arrest warrant for Col. Kachachat Boondee, who is accused of soliciting donations and embezzling funds for the park project by falsely claiming ties to the monarchy.

“He’s wanted for a different matter,” Gen. Teerachai said without further explanation.

Ask Sitabutr??? Different matter??? Really???

Glad he cleared all that up...

Unfortunately we are not allowed to quote from the other English daily published here in Thailand but the Army spokesman went on to say when questioned about the media being allowed to check the income and expenses of the project he stated that the media is in no position to do so

Which I take as meaning that they can't check anything because the Army has already checked everything and the case is closed so the Army will not provide those figures
