BANGKOK: A man and a woman were arrested on board a south-bound train in Trang province with about 100,000 methamphitamine pills and a war weapon.

The two suspects, Mr Krisdan Kuanwilai and Ms Thanaporn Taothong, claimed that they were paid 50,000 baht to deliver the drugs from Bangkok to a client in Trang province.

However, Pol Maj-Gen Daoloi Muendej, commander of Trang provincial police, said that Trang province is just a transit point and not a hub of illicit drug trade.

As for the seized war weapon, he said that the gun originated from Kok Pho district of Pattani. Police, he added, would examine the gun to find out whether it was ever used in committing violent incidents in the Deep South and why it was brought into Trang province.
