South Korea to Open Consulate in Siem Reap

The Foreign Ministry has officially permitted the South Korean embassy to set up consulate for the northwestern provinces based in the tourism hub of Siem Reap to boost investment and tourism, officials said today.

Chum Sounry, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Khmer Times the South Korean embassy in Phnom Penh recently requested to open the consulate based in Siem Reap to cover six provinces: Siem Reap, Preah Vihear, Oddor Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Battambang and Pailin.

“It is in response to the growing of economic between the two countries,” he said. “The purpose of opening the consulate is for expanding the investment, business and tourism to Cambodia.”
