BANGKOK: -- Former auditor general Khunying Jaruvan Maintaka was today sentenced to two years in prison after she was found guilty of malfeasance over the holding of fake seminar in Nan province in October 2003.

She was sentenced along with her former director of human resources office Mr Khampee Somjai for the same offence.

The Criminal Court handed down the two years in prison for Khunying Jaruvan and Mr Kgamoee with no suspended sentence after they were found to have organised a seminar in Nan in order to allow participants in the fake seminar to obtain travel allowance, causing damages amounted to 294,440 baht.

The court found that there was no seminar in Nan but it was merely a plot to claim allowance for other officials going on a Tod Kathin religious trip instead.

However since the two persons were former senior government officials, the court granted them temporary release on bails.

Khunying Jaruvan said she would appeal the court’s verdict.

Well I think you do. What has the bible got to do with the Thai Justice system? Unless of course it was a tongue in cheek reference to Article 44?

COURT
Auditors get jail time for seminar that never took place

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court on Monday sentenced a former auditor general of the Auditor General Office to two years in jail for negligence involving the organising of fake seminar.

The Court said Khunying Jaruwan Metaka and Kamphee Somjai, director of administration and human resource division had been found guilty of allocating Bt294,440 for a seminar in Nan province on October 31, 2003 that never took place.

The sum of money instead was allocated for officials who attended a royal Kathin ceremony.

The defendants were government officials and found guilty of the charges, so the Court sentenced them to two years in jail. However the Court noted that as senior government officials, they were entitled to ask for release on bail.

She appeals.......me to...to get the lid of the corruption jar and let them all pay their way out of the mess they caused.

Her crime is all the greater because of her position. She was the one pointing the finger at others and all the while ripping off the taxpayers. Prison is not enough ( in the unlikely event she ever serves a day), she should be fined miliions and stripped of her honorific title.

Maybe they should reinvestigate the massive house, she said

she built for 3 Million THB,

even the investigators are corrupt here, what hope for a fair

and just society.

However the Court noted that as senior government officials, they were entitled to ask for release on bail.

All the more reason to double the jail time.

Beat me to it. You would think that as Government officials, senior ones at that, they would be made an example of.

And this is why ladies and gentlemen, it's good to a government official where even if you have finally

sent to jail, you still get to go home and drag and appeal the case until everybody concern with the

case dies of forgotten what the case was all about.

So now she has finally had her day in court as a liar and a thief, should her testimony against other people be redacted being the liar she has been proven to be???

The other thing is, why only 2 years for falsifying official documents that resulted in tax payers money being lost, but if you are old and poor and you pick mushrooms you get 15 years? or say bad things about police here and you get 8 years, Yu'p real justice here people

A staunch royalist, a protestant, and a senate candidate for Bangkok before the last coup. It is going to be interesting to see if this Lady will ever do jail time!

As we are seeing time and time again, a guilty verdict in the lower court does not mean too much. As, the appeals court seems to interpret the law very differently.

If that's not a bad enough assessment of the Thai legal system, then how about twelve years to bring this matter to a verdict! On top of that, there is also the issue of everyone being treated equally in the eyes of the law - she and her co-convicted director were granted bail as they were former senior government officials!

Charuwan guilty of corruption, gets 2-year term
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court Monday sentenced former auditor general Khunying Charuwan Mainthaka to two years in jail after it found her guilty of making up a seminar to cheat the state budget of Bt294,440.

Charuwan and Kamphee Somjai, the director of the human resource management division of the Office of the Auditor General, were found convicted in making false claims for travelling expense for herself and other staffs of her office in 2003.

The suit was filed against the two by the National Anti-Corruption Commission on September 4 2015.

The NACC alleged in the suit that Charuwan and Kamphee made up a seminar just to allow Charuwan and other staffs to claim travelling expense and accommodation fees for joining a krathin ceremony although the seminar had never taken place.

The unlawful reimbursement of the expenses caused the state to lose Bt294,440.

The court believed the evidences of the NACC and did not believe the testimonies of the two defendants.

The two were released on bail pending an appeal against the ruling.

I think that you do have to explain that further, what has this incident involving Thais and visits to Buddhist temples got to do with your superstitions about your god?

Regardless of that, don't followers of your cult claim that those who repent, thieves or not, will "stand before god"?

''However since the two persons were former senior government officials, the court granted them temporary release on bail''

I think to myself, ''It's a duck''

Wow. Cows, mud, Thaksin, 2 evils, 2 doors...

That little lot apart, whatever it means, why do you propose that "Americans be part of the restructuring"? What restructuring, why should Americans in particular be part of it, whatever it is?

If you want to be a Thai citizen as a farang then you can be, you only have to apply for it in the same way that foreigners in other countries have to apply to be citizens of those countries.

No, they were charged in September this year, not 2003, so the sentencing process was very efficient.

"However since the two persons were former senior government officials, the court granted them temporary release on bails."

There you have it. This sums up Thai social values all in one sentence. This says it all on many different levels. This statement is the defacto prevalent attitude among Thais.

Negligence? The only negligent thing was she allowed herself to get caught. If the court thinks it's negligence, then what they are saying is she broke the 11th commandment: Thou shalt not get caught.
