TOT "fiber2home" Router - Problems

Has anybody experiences with this crappy Chinese router, provided by TOT?

It's a GPON/Fiberhome AN5506-04-F.

I have a couple of issues with that thing:

  • I can't reach/ping other devices, connected via LAN or WIFI in the internal network, any more!
  • My Android Box with static IP and "custom" DNS gets no Internet access sometimes (It's no DNS problem!)
  • The user name/password provided by TOT doesn't seem to work. I tried to put the router in "Bridge mode" (which also didn't work) and back, but after filling username/password, I could not reach any websites anymore and was redirected to a TOT website, which claimed the password was wrong.
I had to use the "restore" function, to get Internet back.

I was also curious what you meant when you said you put it in Bridge Mode, what device you were then using? Did you attach another router?

I also have the same Fiberhome router, and while it's a bit limited what you can do with it works OK, except in my case I've never been able to get the WiFi to work correctly so I just turn it off and use it strictly as a modem.

Are you looking at the settings as an admin or just user? I seem to recall that you get very limited access as a user

After you put the Fiberhome AN5506-04-F into Bridge Mode, what device was providing PPPoE authentication and NAT Routing?

My Asus Router DSL-N55U was set to "Wan over Ethernet" mode, (DSL Modem disabled) to establish the Internet connection .

I made a few screenshots:

This works so far, as the the Asus router can connect to the ToT "bridge modem" and open an internet connection.

The Asus gets a public IP, the Gateway and DNS are looking good.

Ping works.

But when I try to open any website, I am redirected to a TOT site:

After that, only a complete reset of the TOT router helps, manually switching back from "bridge" to "router" mode is resulting in the same redirection:

172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255 is the 'reserved' IP Range used for local communications within a private network. I assume you're router is being issued that WAN IP address temporarily as PPPoE gets negotiated/authenticated and your account provisioning is referenced, then the router issued an actual public routable IP address.

Does your Fiberhome AN5506-04-F also have a VLAN MODE/ID entry, and does the Asus DSL-N55U support that?

these are the working settings, after a restore/reset.

But meanwhile, I am almost sure, that there is something wrong with the password, that TOT provided to me.

Even if I only re-type the password and don't touch anything else, the device gets only a 172.* IP and must be restored.

Bridge mode is only useful if you have another device linked that makes the conection instead.

If you think something is wrong now, after your (mis-)configuration attempt, just reset your modem.

The poster already stated that he's using a Asus DSL-N55U in WAN Mode, set to PPPoe mode.

Got another problem, maybe you can help me.
Have the same router as you talked about, but I can't see anything after login. Only a white field, green field and a logout button. I can't do anything.
Have you seen that?

How can you have 'another' problem when you've only ever had the one post?

You have an Asus DSL-N55U Router?

Can you connect a PC or Laptop directly to the router's Ethernet Port and try connecting?
