Heavy rain floods homes in the South of Thailand

SOUTH, 1 December 2015 (NNT) - Several areas in the South of Thailand are seeing rainfall, especially in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, where heavy showers overnight have flooded several homes.

Flooding was heaviest in Tha Sala district, where the terrain is even and flat. Lt Col Kiattisak Niwong, Commander of the 105th Artillery Battalion, led troops to inundated areas that were inaccessible by motor vehicles. In Nopphitam district, runoff from the nearby forests of Khao Luang mountain have cut off local roadways between villages.

Meanwhile in Surat Thani province, heavy rain has flooded watershed areas, especially in Kanchanadit district. Nopphitam also drains into Kanchanadit, further exacerbating the problem in Surat Thani.

In Narathiwat province, raining has stopped, but six neighborhoods in the border town of Su-ngai Kolok are still seeing flooding between 10 - 20cm deep. A total of 90 homes are affected by the flooding. Soldiers from Narathiwat Task Force 36 have been deployed to assist disaster victims and stand ready to provide additional aid in the event of more flooding.
