BANGKOK: -- Seven assistants to the chief of Similan national marine park in Phang-nga province have asked for justice from the acting director-general of National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Department after they were transferred out of the famous marine park following a sharp drop in revenue from visitors.

Mr Jirasak Chukwamdee, director of Nakhon Si Thammarat-based conservation area management office, ordered the seven officials to be moved out of Similan national marine park after it was discovered that revenue from visitors to the park has substantially dropped.

He also set up a committee to investigate why the revenue has plunged sharply and promised to reinstate them if they are cleared of any wrongdoings.

However, the seven officials felt that they were not fairly treated as they were transferred before there is a fact finding probe. The group then approached Mr Tunya Naetithamkul, acting director-general of the National Parks, Wildlife and Plants Department to seek justice.

Mr Tunya reportedly said that the transfer of the seven officials during the high tourism season would affect the operations of officials at Similan national marine park.

Now even the civil servants are believing the tourist numbers. Just maybe there are less tourists visiting these islands and thus less money coming in. Then the cherry on the top, to appoint someone thats investigated for graft ?

Difference between Farang pricing and Thai pricing for Park visits may have contributed to the drop in numbers ?

Personally, I will never pay more than my Thai friends with me pay ?

"Just maybe there are less tourists visiting these islands and thus less money coming in."
