NHSO join hands with US to end AIDS

BANGKOK, 1 December 2015 (NNT) – The National Health Security Office (NHSO) has signed an agreement with the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to develop a prevention system for new HIV cases, aiming to end new contractions of HIV/AIDS in Thailand.

The acting secretary-general of NHSO Prateep Dhanakijcharoen has said in the occasion of World AIDS Day that the NHSO has established their first official cooperation with the US CDC, on a five-year term, to mutually enhance the efficiency of healthcare services to patients with HIV, tuberculosis, and other sexually transmitted disease.

This cooperation will lead to new academic support, policy and budget management, the development of the strategic database and information systems, as well as other exchanges with the aim to create a policy model and budgetary management to maximize the prevention and elimination of the AIDS issue in other countries as well.

The NHSO and the Ministry of Public Health have been cooperating with the CDC during 2009-2013 to gain additional budgetary support and the issuance of new policies to develop treatment and healthcare services for HIV/AIDS patients in Thailand.

The academic support from the CDC has led to an establishment of the provincial and regional level HIV/AIDS patients’ treatment developing network, and the strengthening of the service system for an increased efficiency in operations.

I am a bit confused - didn't the junta approved mob just yell " US get out, this is Thailand, not the USA, I am not stupid - go f... yourself" and that they didn't want the US meddling in their affairs? I thought that meant they also didn't need US scientific aid and know-how?

It is something different if the ambassador mess around in the Thai politics or if there is a cooperation to reduce a disease that effect both countries.

And if I recall right it was an American who spread the disease globally. It is not that farmer Somchai infected himself in the jungle and now US jumps in to help.....USA brought the disease (and I don't want to blame them for that) but a cooperation is nothing shameful even if you don't agree with the ambassador.
