Hawk
In the meantime, the premier has assigned related agencies to give New Year presents to the Thai people by coming up with ideas for end-of-year activities. One of the events already in the plan is the overnight prayers at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground. How is praying a present? Okay children lets all sing a happy song. CantSpell
Why should he bother to make a meeting for this when he is on TV every week gloating the govs achievements? Seems to me a waste of time and money and effort to glorify him as PM and to divert attention on pressing matters. That is this time of the year Think about it like it will be a "2015 best of" of the boring weeklies I am so excited already

aslimversgwm
funnily enough (Koh Tao) trial conclusion set for 24th which odd date so between this and most foreigners caught up in xmas they hoping it don't catch much attention !!! Exactly so! How very convenient indeed!
aslimversgwm
Koh Tao 2 been found guilty then Was this meant to be a sarcastic comment? The verdict will be announced on 24th December - conveniently timed so that it will miss the Western press who mostly don't publish newspapers on Christmas day - the 25th. And now we have the government pontificating for 3 days from 23rd to 25th - a mere coincidence I'm sure!

dageurreotype
In the meantime, the premier has assigned related agencies to give New Year presents to the Thai people This perfectly fits the local mindset of a culture of bribery Doubt if a prayer-in would have them hopping about with excitement. Which is the only one mentioned thus far. Maybe he's still working on the others. Who can bow the lowest competitions?

canda
So far this populist government achieved nothing at all. Economy is lowest ever, foreign investments are lowest ever, and this list is endless.... For many Thai people it will sure not be a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Valid points, but not sure many Thai people actually celebrate a Merry Christmas....Not really a Buddhist thing is it ! CANDA.

tomacht8
"Prayut Chan-o-cha is preparing to chair a conference to announce the works and achievements of his administration since its assumption of office in 2014.The event will take place from December 23rd to 25th." Does this mean that all Thai TV channels are brought into line - synchronized - for 3 days?No News, No Sports, No Cartoons, No thai soaps, No Slapsticks? That would be a depressing Christmas TV program. And that should bring back happiness to the people? tuanku
There is an obvious connection, on the declining Roman empire's bread and circuses model, between political enthusiasm for public spectacles and the periods when we are least able to pay for them.
