Job moving to thailand – tax implications

Featured Replies

I am in negotiation for a job that will move from Singapore to Thailand in a few months. (The first few months of work performed in Singapore before relocation).

I would like to obtain as much relevant information as possible for preparing my negotiation with the prospective employer.

I would like to know the following:

- How is the concept of tax residency defined in Thailand (e.g. do they follow the widespread rule of 183 days of income sourced in the country or not ?)

- Is Thailand’s taxation system based on territorial basis or do they tax on worldwide income ?

- How are treated benefits like housing, car, plane tickets to home paid by the company ?

Other related queries:

- What is the minimum amount of salary that one has to put in an employment contract to obtain a work permit and/or residence permit ?

- Is there also a minimum of income to open a bank account ?

Are there any good websites in English that deal with those issues ?

Thanks a lot for your input.

Yes, more than 180 Days, and you become a resident (From a Tax Perspective).
- Is Thailand’s taxation system based on territorial basis or do they tax on worldwide income ?

"A resident of Thailand is liable to pay tax on income from sources in Thailand on a cash basis, regardless where the money is paid, as well as on the portion of income from foreign sources that is brought into Thailand. A non-resident is, however, subject to tax only on income from sources in Thailand."

Taxed.
- What is the minimum amount of salary that one has to put in an employment contract to obtain a work permit and/or residence permit ?

Work Permit, 30 to 50K THB minimum (From previous Post).

- Is there also a minimum of income to open a bank account ?

Don't know ...
