Tourism council calls for measures to increase confidence
By: The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), in response to a warning on possible IS operatives in Thailand, Friday called for measures to help increase tourist confidence ahead of the high season.

TCT president Ittirit Kinglake urged the authorities to install more security cameras at all major tourist destinations and public areas, as part of security measures for tourists. He also asked tourism operators and public members to help by reporting suspicious objects or persons.

"Although the government said no IS members have been found in the country, this news has already scared tourists planning to visit Thailand," said Ittirit.

"Thailand is entering a high tourism season, when millions of tourists will come. So we need to give them confidence about safety and security," he added.

The TCT predicted 30 million tourist arrivals this year despite a huge drop for weeks after the Erawan Shrine bombing in August.

A coordinated response by the government and consistent announcement's by competent authorities would be preferable.

Ok, plan B it is. Quickly install more cameras. Since there is so little time, get the ones that are battery powered and show a blinking red light. No actual innards required. After all, we're going for confidence.

Increase confidence? Start with getting rid of the Jet Ski Scammers and all of the other scammers that have made it a way of live to fleece tourists. All under the watchful eye of police/Thai authorities !

Cheers.

Well, every time I walk by the group of police stationed near the Erawan Shrine my confidence is GREATLY increased.

"the government said no IS members have been found in the country"

Perhaps if they started looking?

Like man sitting in his home office: "Honey, I can't my glasses anywhere in here!"

wifey: "Look on dining room table"

man: "Can you bring them in to me?"

First, there is the purchase price to cousin Somchai for the cameras, then there is the facillitation fee (30%) for approving the budget.

One day i tried to tell the receptionist at a big mall that my helmet was stolen from my bike. After 10 minutes i walked away shaking my head, she couldn't understand me.

Another time i warned a receptionist about the scam-maffia operating in her mall, also then they didn't understand me.

So i won't try to speak english to a policeman or receptionist anymore, solly.

My My, doesn't this council's call for confidence measures fly in the face of the usual refrain from TAT and the Tourism Minister that all is always well and that visitor numbers are always increasing ?
