SURAT THANI:-- On December the 3rd a Polish girl was killed in a motorbike accident.

Elżbieta “Ela” Bawarska, 24 was staying with some friends at the Shiralea Backpackers Resort on Koh Phangan, the accident occurred close to the resort.

A second girl who was riding with her was badly injured and is now receiving treatment in ICU at Suratthnani Hospital on the mainland.

R.I.P.

Hope the sad news will make at least a few travellers or residents exercise caution and think twice before hopping on a bike whilst enjoying their vacation on the islands. Motorcycle accidents are all too common here.

It says one was killed and one was seriously injured, but no information on what happened. Were they hit by another vehicle? Did they crash into something? Seriously piss-poor reporting in Thailand at times.

They had just rented the bike and missed a road into the bungalow where they were staying. Continuing quite a long way, they descended a very steep and long hill. The driver may have panicked and they would not stand a chance of slowing down.

At one point there is a bend which they did not make and plunged down a gully, onto rocks.

There have been other fatal accidents in that spot, very dangerous if you are not an experienced rider.

Sorry for the girl, RIP and bad for the one in ICU but if what you say is true then the driver was not really capable of riding a motor bike and should never have been on it.

Having said that condolences to the family of the deceased and it is hoped the girl who was hospitalised makes a fast and full recovery

The second surviving girl already had second operation and parents and boyfriend are there.

That's a very small news for the rest of the family in Poland and cousin which is my landlord lady .

Unfortunately, in LOS to many young people can drive a bike not having licence , not even having any experience at all.

In last year there was a lot of talking about this problem but nothing done to stop people getting those 2 wheels killing machines .

Just tragedy for parents.coffee1.gif

There are some very difficult and dangerous hills on KP which should never be attempted by learners.
