Your experience mirrors mine. I bought an LG TV/computer monitor a few years back. The TV part never really worked as advertised and after a couple of years it finally broke.Technical support from them was a joke with staff knowing less about the product than I did and failing to return calls as promised. Wouldn't buy the brand again in a hurry.

Hmm, my Samsung 51" HD TV started to have vertical stripes on the left side of the screen after less than 1.5years old.

The stripes are still there now 6 month later as repairs are too expensive and not worth it.

I was thinking about buying a LG but now after reading OP's post not so sure about that anymore.

I think with my next TV purchase, no matter brand, I will buy an extended warranty period for perhaps 3 years.

My old Sony TV up in the master bed room are still going strong and it must be over 6 years old now.

When I was at work LG were a good brand and reliabilty, value for money a good product, alas it seems that they like many others today are not what they were and its difficult to know where to turn. Recently Toshiba had been fined for over stating the profits, no problems with my Toshiba TV, bought years ago but my computer has been a problem.

I am told Samsung are not what they were either, same as Toyota and VW, quality control does not seem to be what it was.

You could buy the cheapest model in the range you are looking at and dont expect it to last long, the replace the same way so TCL or another "never heard of brand" If you want to stick to a named brand then I would look at Sharp, they pioneered LCD Tvs and were never a problem at work, not one of the best known brands or biggest sellers, but worth a look.

I have a few LG products and they all work excellent....but they are all a couple of years old (can't recall but rather more than less) so possible that the quality went down.

My LG TV died just out of warranty few days ago. I've read a common problem is blown capacitors. I took it apart and didn't notice any though, so was thinking about taking it in for service. I'm in Pattaya, and I only have a motorbike, so not sure how to get out there and be cost effective.

Longevity is something I think they have all removed from their equations these days + no real testing anymore and designed in failure....make it last a few years at best is their policy, Dell laptop screen bracket broke, took it apart ordered new bracket 11 quid and good as new.......read this bracket is a known fault gets metal fatigue.

Dell new laptop battery last 14 months new Li-on battery swells up like a ballon makes the trackpad push out of the palm rest only solution put new battery in even though old one is still good cost 3500 baht Dell claim know nothing about it but also my wifes did the same a different Dell model and read others on tut interweb too.

LG G3 phone piece of crap e mail doesnt work "unfortunately e mail has stopped working" LG solution remove all form phone and reload it, works for 1-2 days then fails again no REAL fix. electronic stuff seems to have many flaws these days especially software

On computer motherboard I regularly repair blown capacitors....shop takes between 100-200 Baht.

I stopped by LG years ago in Australia for the same reason, didnt matter what it was, it always sh*t itself quicky, usually just after the warranty expired. Tv's, computer monitors/disc drives, other electrical things, all the same, not good.

My samsung is now on it's 3rd power board (55 inch 7000 series), all within a year

Both times was still under warranty, so they came out and fixed it.

After the second time I went out and bought a decent belkin surge protector, fingers crossed no more problems

It seems to be a common problem on the internet, and IMO it's very poor design that they are so power sensitive

previous sony worked without probs for 8+ years

Just swerve anything Korean.

Go Japanese - Panasonic, Pioneer for TV/Video

Go German - Bosch, Siemens for appliances

For the German things, many things are Chinese already.

I have one very expensive device here (a suction) which is made in Germany.

The turbine is made in Thailand. The Motor made in China and in Germany it is screwed together.

Yes, i agree with your recommendations.

I would also add Sony & Sharp for your TV's,

and Electrolux for your appliances.

Lots of problems and very bad service with LG refrigerator

I bought an LG refrigerator which should make its own ice and cold water. The delivery men could not connect it to the water. So I called my plumber. But still no ice and no drinking water.

After 3 calls two LG technicians came and diagnosed that the the plumber had connected the wrong hose. I asked what for the other hose was. No answer. They just changed the connection. But still no ice and water.

Finally after 20 phone calls with LG center it turned out the fridge cannot be connected to external water. I need to manually fill a water tank in the door.

The 2 technicians corrected the connections but still today, after another half dozens calls, no ice and no cold water.

NEVER AGAIN LG!

I got a great deal on an 18,000BTU LG air conditioner in 2009 - it's still working very well but I can appreciate how frustrating LG after-sales service must be if one of their product breaks. In 2009, I really had no clue about how to get a company to clean air conditioners, I phoned up the LG hotline and was surprised that they said they couldn't help. It turned out that the company who installed it 'Mr Air' could clean it, so I've used them ever since. Maybe this is the case for all air conditioners I'm not sure.
The OP said they bought an LG smart tv, I have nothing but negative things to say about almost every so-called smart tv I've tried. I bought a 40" Samsung TV in 2010 and although the screen works great, the 'smart' functions really aren't that smart, it takes ages to load media files, it's constantly 'updating' or struggling to connect to Wi-Fi. I think it's honestly better to buy a standard full-hd tv and then hook it up to a PC or a separate Android box with Wifi if you need Android. Seriously, even some 10-year old computers are better than the latest smart tvs in terms of going online, playing files and loading media.
