PM affirms no Cabinet shakeup following Ratchapakdi Park scandal

BANGKOK, 10 December 2015 (NNT) – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has rejected rumors that he is planning to reshuffle the Cabinet in response to the Ratchapakdi Park fraud allegations while asking all sides to wait until the probe is finished.

Asked about the report of an imminent Cabinet reshuffle, the Prime Minister denied the information as false, saying he has no plan to make changes to the lineup any time soon. He claimed a reshuffle would not be the solution to the issue surrounding the Ratchapakdi Park project.

Gen Prayut then suggested the media not to pay attention to groundless reports and to avoid mixing up different matters. As investigations into suspected corruption behind the construction of Ratchapakdi Park have been ongoing, the premier encouraged everyone to exercise patience since conclusions will be drawn eventually.

In regard to the arrest of members of a group which set out to uncover the Ratchapakdi Park corruption plot, Gen Prayut said he ordered the arrest himself, adding that officials are currently in the process of interrogating the individuals so as to identify others involved.

Scandal? What scandal?

How can it be a scandal if everything was done above-board?

The reference to scandal must be in reference to the park being closed for renovations.

They cant lie straight in bed , the good general is now half admitting their is corruption.

Is this a simple case of arresting the 'whistle blowers' ?

There are many ethnic groups around the planet that have endemic bribery and corruption in their DNA.....

Not in a million years will it be eradicated.

Fact.

At least the “hint” of corruption at the park is diverting local attention away from the flagging state of the economy, the demise of THAI Airways, the increasingly desperate plight of farmers, the pending EU decision on the fishing industry at month's end, the aviation safety fiasco, the progress with the joint rail project with China, and a host of other less-pressing issues that are being handled by the junta.

Cleaning up corruption requires transparency and when a credible accusation has been made the government has to handle it in an independent and transparent way. You can't keep complaining about the media reporting it or facebookers commenting on it. Deal with the issue out in the open. This would be a forgotten issue right now if the original investigation had been independent and transparent, but having the accused investigate themselves and then say there was no problem will never clear such an issue up in the minds of the public, especially not the Thai public who have lived for decades with corruption in politics and government projects.

The Thai have lived for decades with corruption; and they are used to it. One day I was driving with a Thai friend. He was stopped by the police for no reason. He was told that he had broken some made up law. he paid the 100 bt cash and drove away. I told him if all Thai people used Facebook to say that in one month, not to pay cash anymore. Make the police stand in the hot sun and take the 10 minutes to write the ticket, they could stop some of the police corruption. Ticket 300 baht or cash 100 baht, he said they would always pay cash. Corruption will never end.

Thaskin made back all the money that they took from him and more. His sister will get off; or just move to Hong Kong.

In a poker game, if the cards are marked, it doesn't matter how often they are "reshuffled"

Well Gen. Prayut: let experianced and independant journalists take the job to investigate the case instead of the guys you always cuddle under the warm blanket!!!!!!

Closing ranks as always and desperate to stop any kind of reporting on the subject until everyone has forgotten it ever happened. The usual Thai way.

Who care's about a cabinet shuffle. Just have a very serious in-depth investigation. Find the corrupt people and prosecute them in a timely manner. It's a very simple formula.

What corruption are you talking about? everything is squeaky clean.

Too much pressure, he's about to blow a gasket.

That's the second one of these in as many days... He also was reported to have done the same with the guy now accused of LM for having posted to Facebook some info about the park allegations.

Kinda makes you wonder, just how many of these cases are being ordered by the dear leader himself. Didn't realize that ordering arrests was part of the PM's normal job description.

They cant lie straight in bed , the good general is now half admitting their is corruption.

Can't shake-up those who know where all the bodies are buried. Instead, deny, deny, deny, and apprehend those asking for transparency.

Too much pressure, he's about to blow a gasket.

And wouldn't that be looked on approvingly as congenital Thainess?

Squeaky, yes of course. Clean, not so much.

Self incrimination is never simple, it requires character and honor. On second thought, the characters are in place.

but but Thaksin....

Surprised he hasn't been blamed for the recent outbreak of dengue and the cold weather in the north.

That requires a few things.

1. A government that is interested in upsetting the status quo, because they believe it will benefit the country.

2. A serious government.

3. Ministers and leaders who follow through on what they say, instead of jawboning endlessly.

4. A rule of law. Arrests, and convictions, with jail time. And arrests made, concerning people high on the pecking order.

Arrests are being made, at very low levels. And on the few occasions arrests are being made at a higher level, people are being threatened, coerced, and made to go away. So, in essence, the powers that be are simply not serious about change, progress, improvement, and eliminating corruption or crime. Not serious.

They stopped the train at Hua Hin and unhooked the carriage they were in and arrested them for their own good.

The were apparently only students who were going to stage a protest for an investigation.

So now they are to be interrogated - for their own good?

Maybe taught attiude ajustment sounds more like it.
