Me and a friend will be heading to Savannakhet tomorrow to apply for non immigrant 'o' visa based on marriage. My property is in my wifes name so I will be taking a copy of the house book "tabien bahn". My friends property is his own, under a business name, his wife does not have a house book for the property. What documents should he take instead of the house book ?.

A Thai will have to be in a Tabien Baan. What about her parents, maybe she in their Tabien Baan

Ps: if you go to savannakhet tomorrow, please don't forget that the Consulate is closed Saturday and Sunday. Monday at 9am is their "start" time

Marriage Certificate in Savannakhet HAS to be ORIGINAL, everything else can be copy, but I also take the original wife and all the original documents with me whistling.gif

My wife lives with me in Bangkok but she is in her family's property book showing Nakhon Nayok. They don't really care as long as they see her name.

Just come across 1 more potential problem regarding the marriage certificate. My mate's marriage certificate is from the UK, he has no Thai translation of the certificate, and it is a larger size than A4. Question 1, I have read that they do accept original UK marriage certificate, can anyone confirm this is still correct ?.

Question 2, Will a shrunk down copy be accepted, or is an exact size copy preferable ?.

Can it be an original copy (stamped and with the barcode on the back), obtained from the registry in Australia, (that is where he was married) ?

do a A3 copy

Thanks for the reply Steve, so they will accept the original non translated UK marriage certificate ?.

They will accept a marriage certificate in English. Only a marriage certificate in another language would have to be translated Thai.

That would be accepted because it was done by a government agency.

Great news, thought we were going to have a last minute crisis. Thanks Joe....

One last question, I just got all my copies in black and white. I'm sure last time I had colour copies, does it matter if they are black and white or colour ?.

^ I had the copies also in color but IMO it shouldn't matter if they are b&w or color, what matters mostly is the Original Marriage Certificate

Black and white copies are normally what most people have. They certainly will accept them.

I feel a nuisance asking all these questions, but I don't want to travel all that way and be refused on a minor technicality. And I'm forever grateful for your time Joe.

I agree 100% better come prepared because when you forget something it's a long way back home to get the missing documents biggrin.png

Well done.

That's you sorted for the next 15 months.

And if you play your cards rights 17 months (including the extension you can get for 60 days at the end)

Speaking of extensions ! is it possible to get a 2 month extension at local immigration on each entry, effectively meaning you don't have to leave the country for 5 months ?

Yep, but as you know, you cannot get more than 1 in a row.

The only thing what you MAYBE should worry about is that the different address in the Tabien Baan could come into play as Immigration wants copy of those.

The last time my friend applied for the 2 month extension from immigration I believe he used his house business papers, which also have his wife registered as a partner. So I presume that would still suffice as evidence they are living together at the same address.

Yes of course you are 100% right, but you know each IO makes up his own rules, for example my Immigration wants only people who have a Yellow Tabien Baan (with an Address in the province) to apply for extensions there, even if you come from another province and want to do a 90 day report you get send away if you don't have the Yellow Tabien Baan.

And that is why I said "MAYBE" biggrin.png

Immigration will accept any proof of residence. They do not expect that the wife's house book will be for where you are living.
