Sorry if this has been asked before, but a search of the forum turned nothing up. We are off to Hanoi en famile soon and I wondered whether we would be able to use our Kasikorn or TMB ATM cards there or should we just withdraw the childrens inheritence (currently standing at around 21,000 baht ) and take that in cash.

Got this from ANZ Banks website:

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) were introduced in 1996 to both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to facilitate Visa, Visa Plus, MasterCard, Cirrus, JCB and Diners Club transactions.

So it seems if your Thailand Bank card has either the Cirrus or Plus logo on the back then you can use it in Vietnam.

Do you know if these ATMs give US$ (like Cambodian ATMs) or local currency

The ATM's give you VN Dong.

ATMs are not numerous in Vn, so plan ahead when withdrawing....they dispense in Vn Dong...
