texanaust
Any current recommendations at a private hospital in Bangkok or Pattaya? Bangkok Hospital Pattaya has a special at 24,000 for both procedures, but then adds 25,000 polypectomy per polyp. Given that the GI department's English is not that good, I was unable to ascertain if pathology was included either. Since I had two removed last time, I would be looking at 75k plus anything else they wish to tack on. Are there any hospitals in Bangkok that have more reasonable pricing? Most Gastro doctors usually want a sample of something if you have digestive issues, therefore I am a little perplexed as to why these charges are not included/highly inflated. Sheryl could you please give your current recommendation. Thanks in advance.
tolsti
Try Mission hospital Bangkok. I had several gastroscopies there. Bloody uncomfortable though. I was an in patient at first but the others were out patient. I am covered by Thai SS so no cost but as they are a JV their costs are generally lower than standard private. gamini
Bungrumrad does not charge extra for removing polyps. So it can be cheaper than other private hospitals. i find that they charge what they quote.Other hospitals like you mention always ad extras. BGH quoted me 15,000 for a biopsy but chaged me 25,00 claiming all sorts of extras. Bumrunrad did the same biopsy later for 20,000 no extra charges. DogNo1
It sounds as though you are primarily concerned with a colonoscopy. My specialist in Tokyo says that you don't need stomach examinations very often. For colonoscopies, Bumrungrad is great because if your colon is not clear when you go to the hospital, the nurse will give you enemas until it is. Then they put you to sleep and when you wake up, it is all over. In Japan, they won't give you enemas to clear your colon and you must be awake during your entire colonoscopy. It was interesting to see the first couple of times, but after that, it was a pain to be awake and hear the doctor suctioning the matter out of my colon so he could get a clear view. I have a very long colon so no amount of laxatives clears it completely. I will have my five-year colonoscopy at Bumrungrad in the near future. I expect it to cost around 20,000. swissie
Bht 24'000 special sounds good. But 25'000 for the removal of a Polyp? How would a patient know how many Polyp's were actually removed? Yes they can make a video of the procedure. What if they give you a Video (DVD) from a previous patient where they removed 17 Polyp's? Unless the Video feeds date and exact time (tamper-proof) into the "movie". Cheers.

The price for removal of a polyp is insane at Bangkok Pattaya, and is probably more than what is charged in the States. This seems to be a trend with the hospitals that I have contacted; offer a reasonable price and then add excessive fees in the fine print for polypectomy and pathology. It really is not a "package" if the final price is going to be 3-? times the initial package fee. Like you mentioned, how will the patient really know if you do not trust the hospital to be honest... Thanyaburi Mac
Somewhat dated info from Vibhavadii General Hospital: -- 7 July 2007 Vibhavadi Colonoscopy b 16,091 $474.80 -- 10 Nov 2009 Vibhavadi Endoscopy b 11,666 $292.01 FYI, for service and cost containment, Sheryl often recommends Saint Louis Hospital over on Sathorn Road Mac

KittenKong
I had a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy done in Europe under general anaesthetic. Didnt feel a thing and woke up a few hours later as fresh as a daisy. The only way to do it as far as I'm concerned.
