PARIS: -- Defeat for France’s far-right National Front party in three key target regions according to exit polls. Leader Marine Le Pen lost out to the Republicans and centre-right allies who took 57.5 percent of the vote in the northern region compared to Le Penn’s 42.5 percent.

In the south-east where her niece Marion Marechal-Le Pen was the FN’s lead candidate the conservatives scored 54.5 percent and the FN 45.5 percent the polls showed.

Marine Le Pen’s party came top in the first round last week and was leading in six of the 13 regions in mainland France.

My commiserations to the French, you nearly regained control of your country. Did FN really campaign hard enough or were they hobbled by PC? Across the channel in the UK, the left buried incredible news that UK muslims are 400% more likely to join ISIS than the British armed forces. This is factual. 600 British muslims in the forces, 2000+ over with the sandboys. Four hundred percent!!

France’s far-right fails to win a single region in elections

PARIS: -- There was applause for the leader but France’s far-right national front has failed to win a single region in the second round of elections according to exit polls.

It won more votes than than any other party nationally in last week’s first round boosted by fears of security and the refugee crisis.

No power for Marine Le Pen who failed to get elected but the party’s popularity is on the rise.

“Compared to the last regional election in 2010 our share of the vote has gone from 9.17 percent to 30 percent in the second round five years later. The Front National is now the leading opposition force in most regional councils of France,” she told supporters.

The polls predict seven regions for the centre-right Republicans and five for the ruling Socialists.

Tactical voting handed power to the centre-right in key regions targeted by the FN including in the north and south-east of the country.

“The mobilization in favour of our candidates in the second round shouldn’t make us forget the warnings that were sent to all political leaders, including us, during the first round of these regional elections,” said Republican party leader Nicolas Sarkozy.

The socialists had removed losing candidates from vulnerable seats in the first round and urged their supporters to back Sarkozy’s conservatives. The prime minister’s rhetoric echoed that of the former president.

“Tonight there is no relief, no triumphalism, no message of victory. The danger of the far-right has not gone away, far from it. I have not forgotten the results of the first round of elections and I measure my responsibility, our responsibility, the responsibility of my government under the authority of the President of the Republic,” declared French Prime Minister Manuel Valls.

Analysts saw the run-offs as testing the waters for the 2017 presidential elections with Marine Le Pen hoping to use regional power as a springboard to a presidential bid.

French regions have wide powers over local transport, education and economic development.

Although it's off topic, look it up...

At no point over the past three years has the number of active British Isis fighters eclipsed the number of serving Muslims in the British armed forces.

This statement has no basis in fact. The figures indicate that there were 640 Muslims in the UK armed forces in 2014. The best estimate available is that around 750 UK Muslims have gone to Syria to fight over the last 3 or 4 years. Firstly, comparing a cumulative total to data from a single year is not valid. Secondly, many if not most of these people were not fighting for IS, and many will actually been fighting against them (you are aware that IS is a Wahhabist movement, so are bitter enemies of some other branches of Islam right?).

Good news..

Nothing worse than a threat of far right racist bigots rising back into power.
They were defeated in WW2 never to rise again. .

Sorry for those that want to engender racism and anti-Muslim hatred. Not sorry..

Can you really trust elections these days ? Le Pen is anti EU , that's enough reason to slightly "modify" the outcome so that she didn't win in

2 departments. A win there would be bad for the presidential elections , so they nipped it in the butt.

And let's not forget : France , just like other EU nanny states & US , has an enormous entitlement mass = people who just vote lefty socialist

to keep their welfare checks coming no matter if it destroys their country.

Sad day for France , I guess 130 dead a month ago , was not enough to wake up the French....and get them to vote. First time only about 42 %

now about 60 %.

You appear to contradict your self..

In one statement you say that the results were "modified", then your next statement you say France has an enormous entitlement lefty solialists rah rah..

Surely, if there is an enormous base of socialists then there is no need to fiddle the count.

Didn't Farage spout some similar nonsense when UKIP got hammered in Oldham recently?

Are you a UKIPer, by chance?

Maybe there are enough French people that recall how many millions died the last time the extreme right were in positions of power in Europe or that many folk do not support the rise of the right wing National Front.

Socialist eh? What did they ever do for us, well apart from the Socialist roads, 40 hour working week, pensions, working conditions, hospitals, public police service, minimum working age, school, how much time ya got....
