Prime Minister Hun Sen’s eldest son, Hun Manet, has rebutted allegations he says appeared online, saying that he paid for Cambodians living in Europe to attend events there when he led about 30 youth on a working tour through several cities on the continent from November 27 to December 7.

Mr. Manet wrote on his Facebook page yesterday that he and his entourage had been accused of spending either $3 million or $6 million to pay Cambodians to attend events he attended while travelling in Europe.

“They said the working group offered free food and provided 300 euros [$130] for each participant, and they also said that the money was seized by French police officers and that the working group got the money back after the Cambodian Ambassador in France intervened,” Mr. Manet wrote. “The accusation from those people is not only unreasonable and baseless, but is an attack on the ideals of honor and values of many people, and also attacks the French legal system,” he added.
