Acleda Evolving into Digital Bank

The country’s largest bank by branch numbers, Acleda, is moving into digital banking as it continues to expand regionally, In Channy, its president and group managing director, said.

Digital banking has become the global norm, he said while speaking about the bank’s strategic plans for next year. “The business plan for next year is to focus on digital banking. This is a medium- and long-term strategy for the bank,” Mr. Channy said, adding that it would make banking easier for customers.

Mr. Channy noted that next year would be a milestone due to the arrival of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), which will ease the flow of goods, services and skilled labor throughout the 10-member bloc. “We are talking about a market with a population of about 600 million,” Mr. Channy said, adding that Acleda was aiming for its ATM cards to be accepted globally.
