Not true everywhere, but I get your point, greedies everywhere will always try to bypass the law if they think they can get away with it or if the penalties are no deterrent. Where I am there's a process to go through to be allowed to hire foreign workers, and reputable companies follow those rules. If the immigration authorities see that proper effort has been made but nobody could be found (or the locals could not be bothered to apply) then they'll allow foreign hires on a time-limited employment visa. Maybe where you are employers are allowed to bypass making a proper effort to hire locals, or a blind eye gets turned? I think that's what's been happening on farms? Those farm owners should be fined and jailed for hiring illegals. It's not that difficult to enforce, and I'd have thought the current US administration has the drive to be good at it. Where I am some companies, most often restaurants, use illegals too, but those are undocumented workers and the police/immigration are always chasing after those people/companies. Max sentence here is 10 years in jail for hiring illegals, and up to 65k USD fine. Workers get fined up to 5.5k USD, and can get jailed but they normally just get deported after the fine is paid. Also, if a local here thinks they are being bypassed in favour of a foreign worker they can complain and it'll get investigated. -
