CPD courses: Do you? Do you pay or does your school?

Featured Replies

A topic for discussion.

I am sure all 'real' teachers, (as opposed to the beach bums), would agree that there is a place for CPD in their career. (Actually, that should apply to any employment sector).

There are many useful, online CPD courses for teachers and educators.

Does your employee provide access to these types of courses? Do they pay the course fees?

If your employee doesn't offer access to any type of CPD courses, do you take it upon yourself to self-finance the study of these CPD courses?

What specific CPD courses have you studied?

My school won't pay.

Mine provides some, but it is set up by the Thai admin and it follows their idea of how things should be done. It's a little closer to brainwashing than professional development. Occasionally, there is something worthwhile, though.

To widen this topic, I signed up with The British Council to study their online CPD course 'Teaching SEN Students'. I am about 40% through the course and I can say that it is very well written and structured. An excellent course to help me to identify and manage any students with SEN, (which could include gifted or talented students).

Cost of the course 100 GBP for all 11 units.
