PATTAYA: -- On Monday Night a team of specialist Police Officers from Bangkok conducted multiple raids on shops and street vendors in Pattaya in search of branded counterfeit items. The operation led to the arrest of 3 people and the seizure of approximately 3 Million Baht’s worth of counterfeit items, mostly lady’s handbags.

Officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division in Bangkok received a complaint from Selective Trademark Union (Thailand) Ltd which they were obliged to follow-up, even though the sale of such items in Pattaya is largely ignored by the authorities apart from the occasional raid when an official complaint to Police is made.

Officers visited a Shopping Mall on Pattaya Beach where 10 shops were checked. Two of the shops were selling counterfeit items and the shop assistants in both outlets were arrested and the items were seized.

Here we go with these inflated figures again.

I believe they get these numbers if the confiscated item was being sold for the actual retail price of an original.

This doesn't happen.....................wink.png These are just potential figures of loss for the brand manufacturer on the basis of every counterfeit sold stops an original being sold.

Otherwise what would be the point; why would a punter pay the same price for counterfeit if they could get the original for the same price?

BTW, hope they are not saying that little pile in front of them is/or could be worth 3 million baht.

More likely those shops forgot to pay their protection money this month.

That is just the point. All those shops pay protection money, but when these guys in the OP show up, the "protectors" usually give not home.

Im glad the shop Owner, was not arrested, just the assistant, tomorrow will be open again, selling the same bags, but with a new assistant!

There's only about 20 bags there. Quite expensive for 3 million Baht!

No, it's Christmas, even a policeman's wife needs a Christmas present.

I hope the wife's favourite bag shop doesn't close , luck i got the xmas prezy's early smile.png

That money just covers harassment by the local fuzz...not the CSD and other real police agencies from Bangkok.

Always going after the easy marks who are far less able to defend themselves. And arresting assistants is hitting very low...disgusting.

Never think about going up the food chain to the middle man suppliers or even the manufacturers (if in Thailand).

I know plenty malls/markets where they are sold daily. They even have rented shops to sell them.

Tomorrow the shop owners will in out on the streets to protest about the police coming into their stores and taking the illegal bags.

" Why police take ? Farang like ! "

I dont understand??

They can just call me and i can show them where to go. They will find fake brands for 3000000000 bht in 6h. And since its christmas i wont even charge them...

Yes custom cracks down on the little man trying to make a buck. Bravo throw him in jail but the mega millionaire that pays some poor guy $1 a day in a 3rd world country should be held accountable for slave labor. I have seen these jokers on TV that have the copyright for all this designer crap cry that they did not realize that their "quality/copyrighted" product was being produced in some 3 rd world country for a buck a day. When asked about this fact they plead ignorance. These are the people that should be arrested not some lowly guy eking out a living for a buck a day. Disgusting greedy bastards.

Nobody who buys one of these bags would ever buy an original so no loss to the company.

Just doing there job I know but a victimless crime as far as I am concerned. And no I do

not believe it when the western governments tell me the proceeds of counterfeiting funds

the Taliban and ISIS. coffee1.gif

Just seize the whole MBK mall! Was shopping for trainers there. BTW, look at the tongues of the Adidas and Nike on the inside and they are the same, LOL! When I asked the seller "Are these real or counterfeit?", she responded "real, all real". I said "thanks, but we are looking for a deal on some fake Nike's" and left. She followed us out......"sir, wait sir, come back, not real , I show you....."
