BANGKOK: -- Warrants have been issued by the Criminal Court for the arrest of former Democrat MP of Kanchanaburi Kamnan Sia and his wife for their failure to show up to hear the court’s verdicts in two separate cases.

In the first case, Kamnan Sia or Mr Pracha Pothipipit, his Common Law wife Mrs Khemporn Tangjaiyen, Khemporn’s aide Ms Wanna Lorpaiboon and Mr Thawil Sawasdee were charged with illegal detention, blackmailing and bidding collusion by preventing a business rival from bidding in a construction project in Kanchanaburi during 1999-2001.

The Criminal Court found all of them guilty as charged and sentenced Mr Pracha to five years imprisonment and 4 years each for the rest. The Appeals Court acquitted all the defendants and the case went to the Supreme Court.

But when the Criminal Court set the date for the reading of the Supreme Court’s verdict, Mrs Khemporn asked for the postponement of the even through her lawyer claiming that she was too sick to attend.

The court agreed to defer the reading of the verdict to next January 25 but when it found out that Mrs Khemporn was not sick but was at home, it issued a warrant for her arrest as requested by the public prosecution.

In the second case, Kamnan Sia was charged with illegal encroaching more than 1,000 rai of state land in Kanchanaburi’s Makham Tia district and Ratchaburi’s Suan Poeng district. He was sentenced to one year imprisonment by the Criminal Court. The verdict was appealed to the Appeals Court but Kamnan Sia failed to show up when the verdict was due to be read.

The court then postponed the verdict’s reading to next January 25 and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Thai court, seems more like a circus!

Thai court, seems more like a circus!

Like during a past Olympic Games. Some people just fail at learning from history.

Unless as defendent, Thai or Foreigner.

I refer to a recent 'bail-out' of a convicted sex offender who was sentenced on 'shaky policing' grounds.

Thanks to the wife he got a determined cold case detective to look again.......pure horror.

Unless your richer then rich.

Thai court, seems more like a circus!

The verdict was appealed to the Appeals Court but Kamnan Sia failed to show up when the verdict was due to be read.

Show up for what? I paid already, thought this was all fixed.

If they don't hear the verdict, they are not guilty. tongue.png

Found guilty and sentenced to prison, then acquitted by the appeals court.

Happens nearly every time.

A cynic who has been in Thailand too long would think that giving a custodial sentence loosens up some pockets for the appeals court to get some of that dirty money.

Thai court, seems more like a circus!

.....only with funnier clowns!

And I thought the whole judicial system should be reformed,
which has obviously not yet taken place.

The Criminal Court found all of them guilty as charged and sentenced Mr Pracha to five years imprisonment and 4 years each for the rest.
How could the Criminal Court be so wrong?

Appeals Court acquitted all the defendants and the case went to the Supreme Court.

But when the Criminal Court set the date for the reading of the Supreme Court’s verdict, Mrs Khemporn asked for the postponement of the even through her lawyer claiming that she was too sick to attend.
But Mrs Khemporn was not sick.

Since 15 years,
was
ever one of the sentencing ever been a day in jail?

They didn't hear a word....from Cambodia/Singapore/Dubai wherever they are by now.

Waited to make sure they were safely 'abroad', with their assets, first, maybe?

No it doesn't.

What you missed is that the Supreme Court gave them a jail sentence.
