Three teenage monks from the Sro Yov pagada in Stung Sen in Kompong Thom province and another man have been arrested on charges of stealing almost $10,000 in cash from the pagoda. The case was sent to the provincial court yesterday, police said. The monks, aged between 16 and 18, have also been defrocked. A fifth man, 18, is on the run with $2,500 of the cash, deputy provincial police chief Ke Khannara said.

Police were called in after the chief monk filed a complaint that $9,250 in construction funds was missing. One of the monks, dressed in ordinary clothes, was arrested with the fourth man, Moul Buntheoun, at a night club and police said the pair often used drugs at the pagoda and had been previously targeted by police as drug users.
