Border crossing temporarily closed due to protest in Myanmar

KANCHANABURI, 28 December 2015 (NNT) - Thai immigration officers in Kamchanaburi have temporarily closed the Three Pagodas border crossing after a group of Myanmar people protested against the death sentence of two Myanmar men.

Superintendent of the immigration bureau in Kanchanaburi province Col.Weerayot Karunyathon said army officers were maintained strict security measures at the border crossing area although the protest did not escalate. There was no protester crossing the borders to Thailand, said the superintendent.

However, the immigration bureau decided to temporarily close the border crossing and prohibit Thais from crossing the borders there to Myanmar for security reasons, the official said.

The protesters have gathered in the Payatongzu market in Myanmar after the two Myanmar men were sentenced to a death penalty for the murder of two British tourists in Thailand.

Please! Immigration is making it out that it is dangerous to thais to go into myannmar when most thais disagree with the khao tao verdict and are in agreement with the Burmese that those boys were set up as scapegoats. It is not the people who have to worry about reprisals for that verdict.

I side with the Burmese where there is any doubt and lets face it the RTP haven't been entirely honest or professional in other cases, so there is justification for doubt, a life sentence, so while alive they can appeal , being dead and they find you are innocent later on doesn't help the indigestion system...................................coffee1.gif
