Making air con gheko resistant !

I have a holiday home here in Thailand and not here full time . Every time I come back snakes and rats and geckos have made their way into my air con and blown the bloody thing ! This time the circuit board has fried and will cost 2800 Baht ! Does that sound right to you ? Well really my question is what do you do to protect your units when your away for periods of time ? Like an idiot I just realised when they were first fitted no one bothered to plug the gaps in the piping coming from outside the house ? i also turn the electric off by the kick switch but I have had visitors who have stayed turned on the aircon to be surprised by a bang ! So I guess preventative meseaures is needed ! Any ideas ? Thanks in advance

As well as plugging holes; Don't mount the external compressor unit directly on the ground or raised using bricks or whatever. Mount it on the wall using the proper metal mounting brackets. I also learnt the hard way.

We cut small pieces of aluminum screen and put it over the exterior drip drains. Fasten with a tie wrap or wire/string. It keeps the little critters from coming in through there and up to your air con units.
