MOPH announces its New Year Gift to the People program

BANGKOK, 29 December 2015 (NNT) - Public Health Minister Piyasakol Sakolsatayatorn has announced the ministry's New Year Gift to the People program, hoping to enhance public health and medical services.

The program focuses on four demographics, including youths, persons with disabilities, the elderly, and religious leaders. For youths, the program offers polio vaccinations for 700,000 babies across the country. The vaccination campaign is also part of the ministry's efforts to eradicate polio by 2020.

For persons with disabilities, the ministry has fitted a total of 1,500 people with prosthetics, while committing resources to develop the disabled persons registry and increase the number of assistant orthotists to meet demand.

Meanwhile, the ministry is establishing an elder care program to look after bed-ridden senior citizens, through teams of family doctors, volunteers and other senior citizens that have received training.

For religious leaders, a program has been developed to train monks to become the healthcare volunteer of his temple.
