NRSA to proceed with setting up of corruption courts

BANGKOK, 29 December 2015 (NNT) -- The National Reform Steering Assembly is going ahead with the setting up of corruption courts while pledging to actively implement all reform plans in 2016.

NRSA President Thinnapan Nakata said that 2016 really will be the year of reform — the process that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has been stressing as a highly significant step forward for the country.

Mr. Thinnapan said that the PM has also urged the NRSA to complete the national reform plans which were started by the now disbanded National Reform Council.

In addition, the PM has instructed the NRSA to urgently work with related agencies on five draft laws, such as laws on the setting up of corruption courts, and the law on the protection and retrieval of public property, he added.

The NRSA President said that the draft law on the setting up of corruption courts was endorsed by the Cabinet on December 22 but the enactment of the law will take more than seven months to complete.

Therefore, the NRSA has asked Gen. Prayut as the Chief of the National Council for Peace and Order to refer to Article 44 of the Provisional Constitution to speed up the passing of this law in order for it to be effective in the near future.

I recently had lunch in the company of one of the members of the legislative assembly. If the other assembly members are anything like this one , the government is dead serious about stamping out corruption. These courts are being set up to blitz the bad guys. Lets hope they succeed and see that corruption by politicians stealing from the poor finally stops.

Everyone knows that there is rampant corruption at all levels of Thai society just as all educated and rational people know that the process that you think will fix the problem of corruption is actually a process to ensure that the rampant corruption not only continues but also goes back to benefiting the "right" people i.e. the people who benefited before advent of democracy bought about by the 1997 "peoples constitution".

If you really believed and wanted positive change you would be an advocate of democracy not of an unelected military regime.

The military, which has effectively run the country since 1932 turning it into the corrupt, unjust, unfair and unequal nation it is today, are all of a sudden going to do a complete 180 and undo everything they have created over the last 8 decades through fear, oppression and murder and become paragons of virtue, honesty and goodness and stamp out corruption.

How can I not throw in at least one emotion in response to such nonsense.

Your optimism would be much better placed on the chances of striking it rich by a random friendly Nigerian depositing a few million dollars into your bank account - the odds are much, much more likely of this happening than the Thai military stamping out corruption.
