BANGKOK: -- Japan’s Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Minister, Keiichi Ishii, visited Japanese rail projects in Thailand today while en route from Laos to Japan, a Thai official said as reported in the Bangkok Post.

During the unofficial two-day stop in Bangkok from Monday, Mr Ishii planned to meet Thailand’s governor of State Railway of Thailand, Wuttichart Kalayanamit, and also visit the Red Line rail project at Bang Sue train station in Bangkok.

One of the Red Line branches will serve Bangkok and four neighbouring provinces, with a second route between Bang Sue and Rangsit being constructed by Japan’s MHSC Consortium, which comprises Mitsubishi, Hitachi and Sumitomo) – the group won the most recent Red Line contract as the sole bidder with a price of 32.5 billion Baht.

Is there any country left in the world that is NOT building a railway line in Thailand?

I understand that both the Maldives and the States of Micronesia have declined to bid for the contract, however both the Vatican and the Cook Islands continue to express interest.

We Brits, who built much of the existing system, have a cunning-plan (Quiet there, Baldrick !) & are waiting for the rail-systems to be extended, before offering to show the Thais how to privatise the whole lot successfully ! laugh.png

Such a pity that there's no time in his itinerary, to show the Japanese minister the flag (or the place where it will be placed), to mark the start of constructing the new standard-gauge medium-speed freight-line to China ? rolleyes.gif

Not the same train but -Did the Japanese train man ask the following....?

Why does the Express Sky train from/to the airport not run anymore ?

Why is there a point about half way along it where there are big bang noises at a slight bend?

Poor construction I guess ?

I noticed last week that some smart locals at the 2 stations nearest the airport buy a ticket to head into town but actually get on the train going to the airport first. Stay onboard and and have a seat on their journey to Phayatai instead of standing on the overcrowded 4 carriages.
