Some Allegations Against Ratanakkiri Prison Director ‘True’

The Interior Ministry’s investigation team said yesterday that a preliminary investigation into a Ratanakkiri prison director had found evidence that some of the accusations against him from prison staff appeared to be true, although they would not give further details.

Tin Sovanny has been accused of a slew of crimes by his staff members, including having sex with an inmate, using prison land to build a house and using prison labor for personal gain.

Nuth Savana, the spokesman for the General Prison Department of the Ministry of Interior said that an investigation team had looked into the case earlier this month for three days, interviewing the 32 members of the prison staff who signed the complaint against Mr. Sovanny. “Some things in the complaint are true but some things are not true,” Mr. Savana said. “I cannot say exactly which because we have to wait for a decision from our boss before releasing the final results. We want to get the truth for the public so we have to investigate more before making a decision of how to take action.”
