Gonzo the Face
While I see nothing posted about it, I have just been told that the Mae Sai - Tachilek border crossing is closed, due to the protesting regarding the 2 Burmese guys being given the death sentence. If anyone can confirm the border being closed, it may save many from Chiang Mai a border run for naught.
bhatmasterson
I was there a week ago. The boarder was open but no more day passes being allowed. In the past you could make a copy of the required passport pages, pay 100 or 200 baht to leave your passport at immigration while you spend a few hours on the other side. This way you could avoid stamping out if you have a non immigrant visa. Now they say you need a reentry permit.
jobin
For what it's worth, i was at the Myanmar Consulate this morning and inquired about my upcoming 2 night stay in Tachiliek, and whether i needed a visa for that. The man at the Consulate window said, 'no visa needed, can obtain at MM border station a 4-day short- stay paper, 500 baht.' If border entry or stay was restricted, do you think he might have told me so? What Gonzo speaks of may affect Thais only. I am obviously not Thai.
