Cambodians arrested for cutting Rosewood trees in Thai national park

PRACHINBURI: -- Two Cambodian villagers were arrested after they and 50 others crossed into the Thai border to cut Siamese rosewood trees.

They were paid to cut rosewood or “Mai Phayoong” from the Thaplarn national park in Nadi district of Prachinburi province.

Park officials said the two Cambodian were identified as Budchong 55, and Hon Het, 23.

They were apprehended after a team of park officials spotted a large group of Cambodian poachers were cutting Rosewood trees and transporting them down from the hill.

As Thai authorities declared themselves, the Cambodian abandoned their work and started to run away.

Two were arrested while the rest managed to escape across the border.

Officials found 97 planks of Rosewood at the scene and a circular saw.

The two Cambodians confessed that they were paid 200 baht for a kilo of Rosewood cut in the Thai border by a Cambodian tycoon.

The tycoon transported them in truck since mid this month to a scene near Srakaeo border from where they were told to walk uphill to the Thai border jungle to cut the trees.

Park officials were contacting the military to help to take the wood planks out of the jungle to the park office.

From 52 they were only able to arrest two? I would be embarrassed to put my name to that kind of "successful" operation....

it is a fair way from Nadi to the border

did they say who paid them?

It must be around 100 km from Na Di to the Cambodian border. Even at the nearest point where there is no road, it is 50km. Another story which makes little sense.

Shoot them! Deforestation is only for Thais! w00t.gif

Paid 200 baht a kilo, I thought the stuff was worth a fortune. blink.png

Cambodian bad.......Thai good

Please feel free to insert any other nationality.

Guess they were getting screwed...

Not necessary,...it's there story to tell the police and limit the damages....just like drug transporters always say they were paid by somebody to do this....could be possible !!!... it's al;ways the same story....they minimise there importance in this case.

Regards.

The "authorities" didn't think to place themselves between the border and the Cambodians before declaring themselves? OMG, how dumb can you be? blink.png "Authorities" need to learn to work smarter not harder.

But, thinking now as a conspiracy theorist, was there a reason for not apprehending more? whistling.gif

At least they didn't just shoot them like they usually do.

They should have, now 50 of them got away and will try to do the same again.
