PEA plans to supply electricity to all households in 2016

BANGKOK, 31 December 2015 (NNT) - The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) aims to provide electricity to all households in the year 2016 while profits in 2015 have increased by 2 percent, an amount higher than the estimate.

PEA Governor Semsakool Klaikaew announced the organization’s plans for 2016 to accelerate the project to supply electricity to households around the country which includes more than 35,000 new households as a New Year gift to the public.

This year, the power supply has reached over 40,000 new households, the number which is higher than the target.

The PEA will expand its power supply to the 6 new special economic zones, such as the Mae Sot, Mae Sai, Aranyaprathet and Trad special economic zones to support the ASEAN Economic Community with a budget of over 3 billion Baht.

Mr Semsakool added that the PEA will also accelerate the development of technology coupled with the development of human resources with an emphasis on creating transparency and coverage across the country.

Profits for the year increased by 2 percent of the country’s gross domestic product while next year’s profit is expected to grow more than 3 percent.

Good for them, although the last paragraph is gibberish. As a public utility, PEA should be transparent about their balance sheet and annual operating results. Something to look into.

Finally, one of my pet peeves being addressed, however, I'll bet it will be easy to find people without electricity in 2020 and beyond.

Next up, universal garbage collection. Stop the burning of toxic materials in rural Thailand and even in Pattaya across from my townhouse.

Ah, so around here electricity is a gift?

Ah, so around here electricity is a gift?

Sadly, SO MANY PEOPLE fail to see the Orwellian aspect of this announcement and so many other things.

Some even think that paying taxes is a noble cause as well.

It's hopeless, yet hilarious! blink.png

Happy New Years to all!

I think the MEA might have something to say about this!

"Profits for the year increased by 2 percent of the country’s gross domestic product"

PEA is a State owned enterprise and should not generate any profit. It should operate as a nonprofit enterprise since it is funded by Thai taxpayers. PEA's profits are essentially a disguised tax.

This is different from the traditional publicly-owned utility owned by public shareholders whose investment capital provide the funds for operations, modernization and expansion, Investors are entitled to a fair return on their inbvestment compensurate to risk of imvestment.

Ah, so around here electricity is a gift?

Like hell it is....The most expensive electricity in any country I have been in.....Thailand !!!

A new year's gift - an essential service.

A monopolistic power distributor emphasising transparency.

I hope that they succeed, but suspect that there will always be some rural/border-areas, where it is economically-unfeasible to provide electricity-supply to absolutely all households.

That certainly doesn't happen in the UK, for example. I've stayed in buildings without mains-electricity, it was an interesting experience !

So I don't expect it to happen by the end of 2016 as planned or announced, that would be a very big achievement, but it remains a worthy objective.

Will every household have access to electricity before they splash out on those submarines?

I hope this includes the 600 schools that were still without electricity during the free tablet giveaway.

And with hydro dams emptying........battery packs ? I suspect a sad spin on this announcement.

Seems you haven't travelled far.

And how did George see this?

Please elucidate me.

I have read his books.

Utter tripe.

' 35000 new households as a new year gift to the public ' Gee thanks , I should of given my TW a torch for Xmas , that would of gone down well.

Thank you PEA for our two power cuts so far today.

Perhaps you could focus on providing a reliable power supply as a 'gift' to your existing customers.

Really? I always find my bills quite cheap.

hooking up more houses etc then maintaining it so they dont continually have no power are two different things, as long as we keep losing power all the time it will make no difference, maybe they should put the extra money into quality equipment instead if the cheapest they can get so the supply is constant but then that would remove the big boys extra pocket money
