rooster59 Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 TAT: more than B4bn generated over holidays PHUKET: The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office expects that when the final numbers are in, more than 4 billion baht will have been generated over the holiday season.“All flights to Phuket have been full, with hotel operators reporting about 80 per cent occupancy,” said Anoma Wongyai, director of the TAT Phuket Office.“Most of the Asian tourists are coming from China, but there are also some from Korea and Japan. Additionally, we are seeing a number of European tourists from Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia and Scandinavian countries arriving on the island.” Full story: http://www.phuketgazette.net/phuket-news/TAT-than-B4bn-generated-holidays/62777?desktopversion#ad-image-0 -- Phuket Gazette 2016-01-02
Langsuan Man Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Yes, but how much of that B4bn will stay in Thailand , that is the statistic I would like to see
clockman Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 Yes, but how much of that B4bn will stay in Thailand , that is the statistic I would like to see No chance, transparency is an uknown concept for Thailand!
waldroj Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 So, ฿4Bn (≈$114M US) for Phuket alone. Let's hope the Revenue Department are interested in this too!
emilymat Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 What I don't understand from these pronouncements from TAT is this. Over a normal 5 day period how much money would have been 'generated'? In fact, what does that mean?. It's as though no-one spends anything in normal days - if you follow my point. Suppose I go out for a meal on September 12th and spend 800 baht. On New Years Eve I go out for a meal and spend 900 baht. Does that mean 100 baht is generated or 900?. I really do struggle to accept this figure of 4 bn has any meaning.
wabothai Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 So TAT is telling Thailand that they are able to produce figures on cash revenue in a couple of days while most Thais are having a holiday. Or madame, are they just counting arrivals and guessing expenditures?
Roota Posted January 2, 2016 Posted January 2, 2016 All TAT are saying (as they like to do) is that tourism is going well. And so it is. The nicely precise figure they give is just kind of a decoration. It doesn't bear a whole lot of thinking about.
springheeled jack Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 the would have generated a lot more if they had left the rates of exchange alone lowering the baht means less to spend raising the baht more to spend.
NamKangMan Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 I saw many Thai tourists on the island. I wonder how much of the 4bn baht was generated by Thai's eating som tum and drinking lao khao here.
Felt 35 Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I think its been very quiet and a lot of consumer products on sale which usually not are on sale in a holiday period, but then again sometimes less are more
