Briton arrested in Chiang Mai with child pornography
The Nation

CHIANG MAI: -- A 64-year-old British man was arrested in Chiang Mai Wednesday after a lot of pornographic photos of children were found in his computer’s hard drive.

The Department of Special Investigation led police to arrest Fabian Frederick Blandford at his house in Tambon Wieng in Chiang Mai's Fang district.

The arrest was made after the DSI was alerted by the US Homeland Security Investigations and the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that several child pornographic photos were posted by IP address of Blandford in the middle of November.

The Briton has been staying at the house with his Thai wife and they have a child.

Police alleged that Blandford pretended to be a gentle and kind old man to get close to children who he allegedly abused and took their nude photos for sharing on Internet.

Blandford also allegedly offered to teach English to children for free to prey on his victims.

I am going to play devils advocate here. Surely this scenario could be possible for anyone sharing a network. So basically any person that is using your internet connection could be the culprit.

instead of trawling through facebook and pursuing people who click 'like' the police should be concentrating their IT resources fighting crimes such as the one highlighted here, and not relying on foreigners to do the work for them.

Lock him up,throw away the key,he should never

be allowed on the streets again,as they never stop.

I agree with you entirely, but I don't think the police here are so interested in this type of crime.

Take a walk along Sukhumvit and there is still child porn readily available.

Not along ago I was at the Marriot Hotel. When I came out some guy approached me and asked if I wanted a lady. After a polite no, he asked if I wanted a man. Again I said "No thanks" to which he replied "A young boy or young girl?"

The police could easily get these guys, but they are not interested.

From what I see on his FB account he takes a lot of pictures of poor Akha hill tribe kids and Burmese kids . He was also accused of being too much interested in kids in 2014 by someone posting on his FB.

This is now on Bangkok Post as well as CM108.

The behaviour if correct is obviously criminal and indefensible.

Having said that sometimes these reports concern me a bit. Fabian has been here for yonks, speaks good Thai, came here after his army discharge and for a while was a monk (and this mentioned in the CM108 article). He has been posting youtube and facebook photos of kids and different hill tribe events for a long time. He has published on the on the internet widely on religion, photography, fund raising, and hill tribes. I just become a bit concerned that after 20 odd years someone has considered some recent images offensive and classified as child pornography.

Make no mistake, If he has these images and they are child pornography then I fall into "lock him up and throw away the key" group.

Interestingly the CM108 article has a photo of an officer from Fang Immigration, and the article seems to suggest that there was a British police officer observing the search/arrest. There is a sizeable Farang in the photos with a digital video camera recording at various points. I have not noticed the UK government interested in procedural issues before.

Yeah and Jimmy Saville was a pillar of the community, doing endless charitable work etc.

Make of that what you will,I'm not saying he's guilty but these people are very clever at hiding the truth.

He had images on his mobile Sally. Not a chance anyone was sharing that network.

Correct, thank you. This is an unfortunate follow-up of misplaced judgement of photographs.

DSI and local police officers arresting the suspect at his home in Chiang Mai province today.

CHIANG MAI —- A British national and longtime resident of Chiang Mai province is under arrest on suspicion of uploading child pornography from his computer, police say.

The 64-year-old Briton was arrested at his home today, following a request made to the Division of Special Investigation by the US authorities to detain the man, according to a police officer at Fang Police Station.

“He ordained as a monk years ago. He’s been living here for a long time already. He later left the monkhood and married a woman from Fang,” said Police Col. Chollathep Maichai. “He’s a charitable man. He likes to visit [and give donations] to many neighborhoods. He also likes to visit young children.”

Chollathep continued, “But the DSI told us he sometimes brought kids to his home and made them take a shower, and he took photos of them anduploaded them to the internet. American officials found the photos and contacted the DSI about it.”

The Briton is still being interrogated by police at the time of writing.

British Buddhist monk arrested in Thailand on child pornography charges
By Philip Sherwell, Bangkok

Fabian Frederick Blandford, a well known Buddhist scholar, arrested at home in northern Thailand in raid during which British police were present as observers

BANGKOK: -- A British retiree who became a respected Buddhist monk has been arrested in Thailand in a child pornography investigation after a tip-off from US investigators.

Fabian Frederick Blandford, 64, was arrested at his home in northern Thailand in a raid during which British police based in the country were present as observers.

Mr Blandford, a long-time resident of the kingdom, had been highly praised for his charitable work with tribal minorities and his teachings as a Buddhist scholar after ordaining as a monk.

He left the clergy to marry a Thai woman and the couple have two young children. Senior Thai officers detained him at the home they shared in the Fang district of Chiang Mai province near the Burmese border.

Thai police arrest British man in child pornography case

BANGKOK (AP) — Thai police, acting on a U.S. tip about child pornography uploads, arrested a British man Wednesday in a northern province where another Westerner was arrested weeks earlier in a similar case.

Department of Special Investigation Lt. Col. Paisith Sungkahapong said the U.S. Department of Homeland Security informed the Thai agency in November that images were being uploaded and sent from a specific Internet address. The uploads were traced by The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, a non-profit group funded by the U.S. government.

Police arrested Fabian Frederick Blandford, 64, at his home in Chiang Mai province, where he lives with his Thai wife and two children.

"With a court warrant, DSI searched this man's house in Chiang Mai this morning and found a lot of such images, some were taken by himself and some were downloaded. The man admits that the images belong to him," said Paisith.

He said that according to an initial investigation, Blandford was friendly with his Thai neighbors. Police said he offered to teach English to local children. Thai newspapers said he had once been a Buddhist monk.

Blandford is being held pending formal charges. Under a Thai law that came into force last month, possession of child pornography carries a penalty of up to five years in prison, and distribution of the images carries a penalty of seven years.

Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia are attractive destinations for sex offenders because of lax law enforcement despite periodic crackdowns.

A 67-year-old American, James Craig Neumann, was arrested on similar charges last month in a different district of Chiang Mai. He was described as a former English-language teacher.

DSI's Paisith said the Department of Homeland Security notified Thai authorities of at least one other pedophile-related case last year, involving a Thai man who was traced after posting obscene photos of young girls to a pedophile website. The man had been a primary school teacher.

Some of these pedos choose isolated places, like Fang, to do their dirty work. I imagine he felt nobody would search for him there. Uploading photos is what got him nailed, but he would of been caught eventually anyways. Probably by some mom and dad wondering why their kids were hanging out at this guy's home. Sounds like he had several "hobbies" that kept him close to kids. Photography, english lessons, etc. Masquerading as a monk..lol. I knew an older man who was pimping ladies in the Philippines who claimed he used to be a Mormon "Bishop". Means absolutely nothing, as hiding behind robes is a classic technique for these guys.

Hope none of these kids were further violated, other than the shower photos.

Remember this guy is yet to be convicted of any crime.

He deserves the respect of anyone who is innocent until proven otherwise.

I agree,he deserves the respect of innocent till proven guilty.

Now I ain't a gambler, but if I was,I'd bet a pound to a pinch of s**t,he's far more guilty than the 2 Burmese.Don't see US homeland security getting it wrong.

Could be, but not very likely. Also considering that child pornography was found on the hard disk of his computer makes it even less likely.

Unless he was framed by someone, but I don't think that was very likely either.

Unless you are using a static (fixed) IP address. However, the majority of home users are on dynamic IP addresses, which change every time your router is switched off or at the end of the IP lease period from your ISP which will change normally every 96 hours if running continuous.

Initially, the address will be tracked down to an IP block and depending on how many users are on the different nodes, refined from there.

I would assume that internet providers do have a list of what IP is leased to what computer at what time. I do know that mine does change a lot.

Fabianfred was posting his filth on this forum repeatedly and having it removed after numerous complaints from members.

Just from his own videos posted on here many here had our suspicions as to his motive.

I'm certain he is a paedophile...lock him up and keep him there until the carrion have eaten him.
